Reading glasses

Ok, so now I need reading glasses. Stop laughing. In fact I've been buying those 15.00 dollar Walgreens "2.0" jobs for a few years now, but they are only barely adequate for working in front of a computer. No matter what what "x-factor" I buy, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, I still have to get a foot from the monitor to "see right". Got tired of it and went down to sick bay and had Dr. Crusher hook me up with some "pre-scription eye-glasses", optimized for computer reading. They came in today. Amazing. Not only were each of my eyes different (one needed a 2.0, and the other a 2.5), but I also had that astigmatism business, which "Walgreens 2.0" does not address. Should have done this a long time ago.

I've been using reading glasses for reading books and labels for several years now. But I don't seem to have a problem reading a computer screen without them.

But I do think that everything is using smaller print than it used to.

Go to the Dollar Store..Buy them ,a Buck each,in any magnification..For five bucks yer covered!.I got cheaters all over the place..I do well with the Computer screen ,not needed for driving/flying,but with a Sec chart? some gauges? and my Check Book? Yep, I have em all over the house too, but they seem to be optimized for reading, which, for me, means I'm close to the pages. For working at a computer, they are not adequate, as I'm usually further away than I am when read a book. These new "special" ones are great for computers, and I spend a lot of time in front of these things, all day at work.

I can still pass a driving test without glasses. Dr. Crusher said my distance vision is 20/25. But up close is now in BIT STATUS DEGD...

That stands for the old gizzards club :applause::jump::applause:
I breezed through membership on the presbiopic club (we all start losing the ability to accomodate the lens - yes, I am a doctor - sometime after 30 and usually by 40ish...
we all need reading glasses... having myopic and astigmatic eyes... I just took my glasses off and could see great... without reading glasses... focus damn near to my fingertips...
Eventually by age 70... the big fog set in... (read cataracts)... and there... I finally prevailed... [I had asymmetric deficits... one eye sharper than the other... and not an easy do.. for
a career Army officer... field glasses had to be monkeyed with the knurled focus adjusting rings, etc.)
because my newly installed bionic replacement lenses.. are both equal... and focus exactly to the same distance for close up vision... still need reading glasses... but they don't need
separate corrections.. etc. :kilroy::kilroy::kilroy:
and now with the "Woolworth's five and ten" glasses I just get 1.5 diopter ones... but... those cheapies (5 pairs for 17 bucks at Costco's) are basically disposables... they get worn
and foggy... get another 5 pairs.. and I GOT 20/20 VISION for distance... and pass the driver's license test with no sweat...
Getting old sucks, youg man... (I guess I can call you that.. :wiggle:
but the alternative is grim... no fun looking at the roots of daiseys from below... and it must be cold down there....:isadizzy::pop4:

Rgr that sir! :salute: Life could be a lot worse! I had that radial keratotomy business done back in 1994, and it fixed my long range vision perfectly, even up to now, but that doesn't fix the closeness vision issues one experiences with "older" age... :)

It sure Does Gaucho...most of us will not give up anything graciously...We resent any and all infringement on our selves...All this Old crap stuff is for the other guy. Our egos are as big as a Water Mellon, our vanity ? not to be questioned,.when we walk ,its not a tottering old guy, but with both feet on the ground We speak in loud booming voice, We lead and do not follow, We Transmt, others receive, and when we speak? All listen....,always nice to the ladys.and will not anything that questions out prowess and masculinity go unchecked...And then my friend there are Fools..and to be sure There Is Nothing like An Old fool....before we Get there lets hope Uncle All Will Perch On our shoulder, and wispers in our ear...Dream On Old Guy!! ...Sorry this Subject came up.Its stuff one saves for the end..And when the Old guy Comes and smiles at you? All you can do is Smile back at him....I Think A Double YUKON JACK and OJ is in order now..Cheers<label for="rb_iconid_24">

If Ya can Put a model together? Then Alls OK!..Thats the big test!

Interesting, my eyes are just the opposite. Nearsighted for a long time now. Up close is clearer without the glasses.

I cannot blv you folks take risks with your eyes as above, an optometrist would be having palpatations if you told him you bought drugstore off the shelf goggles. I know they are exxy but a regular eye exam and script specs is a must.
Over & Out ..... now where is that Submit Reply button ah yes.... tucked away down there..... :kilroy:

btw I'm both near and far sighted. I forget the term.

astigmatism - Thank you!

My story: For the last few years, I have had trouble reading, so was using drug store glasses much to the better half's dismay. I gave in and went to an optometrist to get checked out. I was diagnosed with astigmatism and both my eyes needed +2.25 which the drug store variety was. To make a long story short, I paid over $300 for the glasses and all they did was distort everything. Squares no longer looked square. A text page looked like an upside triangle. Two further trips back and more $$$ said the prescription was correct and glasses were fine. They weren't. Went back to my $9.95 variety and see just fine now, no distortions. My eyes are 20/15 for distance.

At age 40, I had to get reading glasses. Arms weren't long enough to read and my wife got tired of holding the book 4 feet away so I could see.
At age 52, I had to get reading/distance glasses.

The most frustrating thing overall for me, is having to have them near me all the time! If I go into the living room, they need to be with me, if I get on the computer, they need to
be there.....getting old is not a graceful process!! :icon_lol:
