Regarding re-activation of FSX

It's been about three years, I think, since reinstalling FSX and reactivating it.....this time. I've done it several times. If I recall correctly, this last time I had to call a toll free number to get it accomplished.

Is this still the case?

Would it be easier to just buy a new set of install discs?

I think I had to call for activation this most recent reinstall because I had just built a new system..

i built a new system also, and reactivated about 8 months ago...no phone call for me. Do you have the FSX Gold version which includes FSX deluxe + acceleration.

From what I remember MS clear out the database of serial nos for FSX periodically (3 or 6 mths poss) so no need to rush out and buy new - providing it can be found. Haven't seen FSX on the shelves of my local Best Buy in many moons.
But if you have had issues with reinstalls then a call to a help line in my exp usually resolves.

From vague memories when I was upgrading my PC and re-installing stuff on an almost weekly basis, I seem to recall that after I'd called the toll-free number and spoken to the robot I didn't have to do it again the next time I installed. I have a feeling it's based on the number of times you've installed it in a given time period as I had a similar issue with MS Office which I assume uses the same identification process.

So now I am going to have to buy FSX gold edition, that sucks. I have had my DVDs since FSX came out, I am getting worried now. Oh well before I will buy FSX I will get Par3D. I am darned if I am going to give micro$ any more money. Sorry for the rant, I just hate micro$ so much.

Sorry, why are you going to have to buy them again?

Um, why do you need to buy Gold if you have disks and keys left? It is only that you you may have to use phone activation, if you have installed it too often in certain time period. I had to do that few times with Vista OEM reinstalls few years ago, and it wasn't really a big deal.

With Prepar3d, if you do complete reinstall of the system, not just the P3D as your key information stays in the registry then, you need to drop email for them to release your activation. Also not a big deal, but this is how it goes.

I just re-installed FSX (gold) for the fourth time, all on different systems, as the old machines went "TU" or sold off. Never had to call the toll free number. It always activated by Interweb with no problem.

I'm not even ready to do a reinstall just yet, but planning to. I will be reimaging my computers hard drive with fresh install of Windows 7, and then reinstall FSX/Acceleration.

No hurry though. Just gettin' prepared is all. NC

I just reinstalled FSX last week and activated it and Acceleration with no problems. I just checked my .exe and Compatibility mode is unchecked. I reckon that's why it went well.

Regarding this compatibility mode check box business, one other word of caution. I checked that once, in an attempt to fix some problem. It didn't fix it, but it did cause my Sibwings Bird Dog to crash FSX, so I un-checked it and left it alone. I have Win7 64 bit, and everything works just fine, including activation.
