removing aircraft...pt-2

hey all,
im going buy my heli-kit helicopter controller unit, some people dont seem to like it,but ive become friends through email with the inventor/manufacturer and he says if i have trouble..he will walk me through all the set up ect..(yup i need help most days) ,i wont have any sort of fixed wing controllers for several months, maybe october or later.so in the mean time i want to free up my pc and my FSX install.

is there anything i need to leave in the "airplane" folder that will effect the helicopter installs...keep them from running correctly if i remove a bunch of stuff?..gauges whatever?...

and the planes themselves, can i just put some "//" somewhere in the plane folder to just turn the plane off?.will that allow FSX to start up faster?..or should i just remove a bunch of stuff?

Interesting, after 86+ views, nobody has an opinion? Daveroo. . .here's mine, for what it's worth. It's never a good idea to just "remove a bunch of stuff", especially gauges. If you have a lot of addon aircraft that you won't be flying, then removing them won't affect the sim. As for default aircraft. . .I've removed the Commercial Airlines before without any obvious problems arising afterwards (I don't fly those types and don't fly into major hubs so it wasn't a great loss). However, I also removed some of the GA and that did cause some problems, so I don't know that I would just dump those. What I did do, however, was change the name of the panel folder (panel.bak) changing that causes the aircraft to not show up in the aircraft selection menu, but leaves it available to the sim and for use as AI, (which means it will still have to be loaded at startup probably). Load times can be affected by scenery as well, so if you have a lot of heavy scenery, expect slightly longer load times.

That's my opinion, again, for what it might be worth.

Same here...I would never remove anything from default FsX add-ons but I have heard too that changing the name of the panel will render the plane off the menu!

You can remove any default plane in FSX, unlike in FS9 where the thing would "complain". Just move the aircraft folders to a safe place for later on.

Just remember that you will lose most AI in the sim. I wouldn't touch the gauges or effects folders though.

This will make FSX load a bit faster, but not a whole lot. So in short, it is possible, but IMHO not adviseable.

I removed only one plane from my FSX and that is the P-51 racer. Who needs that when you have the wonderful WBS offerings available?

ok..i think ill remove the planes i know i wont use,i cant see anything wrong with myself,as ive done it before, per recommendations here on SOH,

i know i talk in circles sometimes, but i did mean i would remove any gauges or effects from those folders, what i was trying to ask is did i need to copy and paste certain default aircrafts gauges to the gauges folder..i think it was FS9? you had to do that or else addon planes wouldn't have gauges?..
