If the A12-A evolved into a FA-12A we might have seen a retro paint scheme like this......

Thats just friggen cool! I love this aircraft, and that paint just made my day. Great job!

Hi Gibbage.....

Glad you like it. I'm working on a VF-111 Sundowner paint scheme too, just started it today. With the triagular shape of this plane, the obvious graphic solutions do not always give the best results. I'm thinking of an asymmetrical paint scheme. Time will tell. VF-111 will be revised to read as VFA-111 just like the Jolly Rogers paint scheme.

Regards,

Tommy

Flying wings lend themselvs very well to some very creative paint jobs due to there flat and mostly unbroken canvas. I just there were more flying wings in the world to paint!

Sundowner's Work In Progress......still needs a lot of work / alignment.
WOW. It looks cRazY StuPid, but I'm really liking this one......:isadizzy:

I mirrored the sun beams to the other side of the plane for a symmetrical look, but it just looked cRazY StuPid x2. I'll stick to the asymmetrical paint scheme, as currently shown, for now.

Nice! I would try one of the new retro paint jobs your seeing on Navy and Marine birds now, like the 2 tone or even 3 tone blue on grey paints from WWII.

Work In Progress......It's not based on any one particular paint scheme, but I think it captures the feel of the period. The VFA unit is not set just yet....

Awesome paints for a great model!

I love this model but boy oh boy did I have to adjust the contact points for the landing gear for AI Carrier ops. It's approach speed is still quite high. I may do some work on the airfile to tweak it out for a lower approach speed and other improvements in handling.

Is there any chance of some RAF and Swiss air Force ones a flight of these over the Alps would look fantastic in my opinion!

How and what are you using for AI Carrier ops? I used Alphasim's Enterprise back when I used FS2004, but never fooled around with the AI stuff.

As time allows and if it's within my limited skill set; I can't do everything in Photoshop and curved lines kill me.

You have any links to the paint schemes you'd like to see?

Tommy

I use AICarriers 2 program which is freeware over at Avsim. It allows me to set the carrier position and direction in FSX Acc. Most of the FSX Carrier models can be set up in AICarriers and of course they are now moving and not static. Setting up an aircraft model's contact points for carrier ops for the moving AI Carriers takes a bit more tweaking than standard non-moving decks and runways. The biggest problem I encountered with the A-12 was the gear compression/rate which would tip steeply forward during traps and cat launches sometimes causing a crash detection. I got it sorted out but it isn't perfect. I need to work on the airfile to get a slower approach speed to the deck.
