First a little background. I lived in Egypt for a few years and while I saw many museum exhibits of aircraft, I cannot remember one specific bit of information. In early Egyptian aircraft, the crescent always faced towards the front of the aircraft. What I can't remember was if it paralleled the leading edge of the wing or paralled a right angled line from the fuselage centerline. Here is a very unclear picture from the Israeli Airforce Museum of a MiG-15UTI. Anyone have reference photos from the top down to verify?

Crescent faces aft-ish....

Thanks fellow Matt. Answers my question, it parallels the leading edge according to that pic! I wasn't too clear in my description. The leading edge of the curved part always faces forward, lol. Nitpicking myself now, stop it says the little voice!
