repaint question (GIMP or FS-REPAINT)

Hello everybody, this might be a simple one: I have borrowed the texture of a flap from another aircraft and put it on the flap of my aircraft. The flap texture has a ribbed look to it. Simple, huh?
The only trouble is that the borrowed texture is gray in color, but my flap needs to be tan in color.


I am requesting that one might explain how I can change the grey color to the tan color while keeping the "ribbed" look (or pattern) of the borrowed texture intact?

Huh - changing the basic color while preserving the pattern isn't that easy.
What specific aircraft are you talking about?

Maybe "borrowing" the ribbed pattern from another aircraft's layered paint kit and creating a new layer with the deserved color would be the smarter way.

Could you post a screenie of the area concerned?

Depending on the actual colors, adjoining colors and base textures you sometimes can get away with using some of the more advanced image adjustments / color corrections in a good paint program. Not sure if Gimp does have all the options you might find in PSP. But Markus is probably right that it is likely easier to paint a new layer with the color you want than changing just the existing one.Stefan
 
in photoshop it would be simplicity. My problem is I've never used Gimp or FSrepaint, I imagine the other guys are in the same boat. In their chosen programs they would be able to sort it in a heartbeat, but in other programs that differ wildly, they may be as clued up as yourself.

It is all up to how sophisticated a paint program you are using....
You also need to have some basic painting skills... In its defect, just send the texture to me... or anyone willing and able to help and tell the person what color you want it and have it done for you...
However, it is much better for you to get a good paint program (PSP or Photoshop... not the oldies but the most recent) and gain experience doing the job...
