i'm sure someone here is a wizard at making new skins or textures or repaints, i'm not sure what the technical term is. but i want to make a new paint job for some aircraft. the aircraft are on fs2004 but i figured it can't be too different than CFS, plus theres some paint jobs i want to do on CFS also.

if anyone can give me a run down or show me a tutorial and software if its needed, i would be very greatful. :jump:

i'm hoping this isn't harder than i think it is.

Winslow33

~S~ a,

Winslow33 is becoming the expert on skins. It seams he favors white, a lot of white. Hubbabubba or Ivan could tell you, I am sure, but they are perfectionist. Also, I am still waiting for my next lesson from Hubbabubba and smilo is waiting for Ivan to finish a bomber for him.

in fs2004 i have an F-8 crusader like shins in area 88 and i want to add his paint job. I also have an F-5 tiger-II which he gets when his crusader is destroyed later in the series, which also needs his paint job.

You say you want to paint CFS planes too? May I ask what type of plane? Is it one included in the game, or is it a downloaded aircraft?

yea, the planes in the anime are an F-8 crusader and an F-5 tiger-II.
i just want to add the paint scheme to stock planes in CFS so i can have a custom p-51 that i'm allowed to use in online missions.

as far as FS2004. i have the actual planes downloaded, they just need a new paint job to match.
heres what they look like..

i want the F-5 scheme on the stock P-51

Ok... Go into the CFS aircraft directory (wherever you installed CFS, open the aircraft folder). Go to the folder p51d. then open the Texture folder. You will see a few bitmaps. The ones concerning you are the ones with the sides and wings... Paint them as you like, but remember to save them in a 256-bit bitmap or they will not work. You might be kinda limited in colors because a 24-bit true color bitmap won't work. If it doesn't work, send me a private message and I'll give it a try for you. I've done repaints on the P-51 before. As for FS 2004, I've never worked with that sim so I cant help with THAT... Any problems with your P-51 paint job, let me know.

.... i can not use paint for the life of me.
i copied and pasted the p-51D and one of them i changed some stuff just to see if it would work. there were 2 p-51's in the game but the names were the same even though i named one "NeoCuba" because... well i'll explain the name later. it wasn't named that in the game and the changes happened to both p-51's even though only one is changed.

and i can't paint stuff to make it look good, i can't do art and i mean it.
freshman year, i failed intro to art class.

Name Game

~S~ a,

You can not change the name of a plane with paint. There is more to it then that. Just stick to the name that is on the .BMP. The name can be changed if you want to change it, but it is not that simple.

i'm not too worried about the name. but when i went to play it, either both p-51's are changed or none of them are.

Pretty pics.

Looks like a comic book though. The plane also looks a bit like a F-5G / F-20 Tigershark from the fuselage contours though I can't see the exhaust to confirm. I believe the F-5E Tiger II had a pinched in waist and little bitty engines.

that plane is from an anime. i can look through the episodes for some more angles. I downloaded the tiger II from alphasim and it looks the same i think, but i didn't give it a full investigation.

That was the F-5E Tiger II. From what I can tell, the F-5A Tiger is narrow top to bottom AND side to side. The F-5E only is narrower side to side. Pretty airplane in any case. I saw a F-5 unknown variant in adversary colours taking off from one of our local AF bases many years back. This plane is the western version of the MiG-21.

- Ivan.

Go for the F-5G / F-20 Tigershark instead. It is basically the same plane with a GE F-404 engine and thrust level near unity when lightly loaded.
