Resetting controller settings

No, not the game. As of today i am banished from each and every aircraft in MSFS2024....

I took a few days off, got really fed up with trying to assign VC stick and mouse bindings (so i bought the Tobii eye tracker...not installed yet) Actually the first time i had problems with this in FS2024. Anyway, it looks like i made such a mess of things that my keyboard, mouse and stick won't work anymore in FS2024.... First thing EVER that this happens since i bought my Sinclair Spectrum 48K about 40 years ago... This FS2024 really is something else, isn't it.

Yesterday i could still hit the Escape key to get into the setup menu's, that's now gone too... (my keyboard, mouse and stick work fine in other games). Today i thought i'd try deleting FS2024 and re-installing it (via Steam). Worked fine but still no response from keyboard no matter what keys i hit, nore from my mouse nore Stick. Until now they have all worked fine until i started messing about with the mouse settings to get the VC freelook back that always worked before.

Because of the Steam installation i can imagine that MSFS2024 is not really removed from my SD completely. Maybe peripheral settings are kept 'for my convience' ??.... I mean, you can agree with me that the only solution to get FS2024 recognise my keyboard, mouse and stick again is to completely remove FS2024 and install a completely new and fresh FS2024, right ??.....

Is anybody perhaps familiar with this extraordinairy phenomenon ? I have been flying literally each and every FS version starting with Sublogic Flight Simulator II more then 40 years ago and i have never had this happen to me, ever !

Perhaps someone could think of another solution to get atleast my keyboard working again in FS2024 ? Would there be a way to indeed *completely* remove my Steam version from my system ?

Thanks very much for listening, gentlemen ! (keeping my fingers crossed...)

Here's how to reset the Steam controller settings, just in case it's the Steam settings which are the problem here:

To reset controller settings in Steam, you can follow these steps:
Open Steam and go to the "Steam" menu in the top-left corner.
Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.
Click on the "Controller" tab.
Click on the "General Controller Settings" button.
Click on the "Reset to Default Settings" button. This will reset all controller settings in Steam back to their default values.

If not, your MSFS2024 controller settings file should be in this location:

C:\Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata87206642537590 (this would be the 2024 "profiles" folder)
If you navigate to the “remote” folder there, you will see the individual profiles.

If they are there, delete them and let MSFS2024 create new, default ones when you re-launch the sim.

Left of left field - if your keyboard is wifi connected to the PC, [not wired/plugged in], then try new batteries. I have had a situation where the keyboard would not work with FS2020 but work with other pgms, [intermittently], which turned out to be worn out batteries in the keyboard.

Just tried a flight and there was no keyboard input available for me. Plus "network instability" on my gigabit ISP which I had just run a speed test on. Everything was fine on my end. MS/Asobo really needs to get this sorted out quickly before they end up with a class action lawsuit from all of the irritated customers...

A restart and everything seems to be working(?) again. Except now the pink plaid planes are all over the place...such a marvelously consistent program!

BINGO !! :cheerful:

Thank you so much, Tiger ! This worked like a charm, keyboard, mouse, stick all fine ! Now i can start from scratch messing it all up again

I should've thought about that because i have just spend a day or two trying to locate these Profile files because they need tweaking in order to get the Tobii eye tracker to work Ok.

I couldn't get your Steam settings tip to work because i am in the Netherlands so i have a dutch Steam version. There is a Controller tab alright but no "General Controller Settings" button. If i open the Controller setting all there is is indeed a diagram of such an XBox controller which i do not have installed atm. There's a seperate settings menu for my Velocity One Flightstick but funny enough all there is to see is again that Xbox controller thingy..... My flightstick does work fine again now that the Profile files are replaced with new ones. ;-)

Sooooo, everything's fine again, Tiger ! Thank you very much again for your help ! :ernaehrung004:

An update on my earlier post…
Seems my ISP is cutting in and out for no apparent reason. Their website says there are no outages in the area, but people have been having issues for days in the Phoenix metro area and complaining loudly on Reddit. Makes flying difficult when you lose connectivity every few minutes. It also affects 2020, although not as seriously.

Maybe an admin can make this a sticky or we can create a single post where the most important hints and tricks can be located by an admin .
This is definitely gold, since the sim is still very much a work in progress 🤨
