Retro Naval AI help required

Hi all,

here's a cry for help to any AI modelers out there. As many regulars to this forum know Ian Elliot and I recently released a Retro Royal Naval Air Stations scenery pack for FS9 and since the release I have been working frantically on the traffic specifically trying to find AI models to make the stations come to life! after searching for hours looking for Relevant types I found adequate models for the phantom the sea price and the sea king but the other aircraft i found just didn't look right with the scenery. Then I thought to myself if I'm going to to this why not see if anybody out there can help so I am now looking for somebody who could direct me to or who be prepared to construct a few simple AI models for use with this pack the models I need are Sea Vixen Westland Wasp Westland Wessex and Gannet if anybody can help with any of this it would be greatly appreciated

Kindest regards

Computers aren't what they were in the Stone Age, so these days my AI is composed of late FS2002/early SF2004 flyables, as a second resort.
I rip out the VC textures if present, remove the panel and sound folders, and convert all textures to DXT3.
The helos get the stemme air file, or whatever is to hand from MAIW.
Unless there are 100's of AI involved, you shouldn't have performance issues.
I see there's an FS8/FS9 Sea Vixen on flightsim.com...

svixen2.zip, worth a look Hooky?

This might explain Hooky's request.

He asked me to test a traffic file using the freeware AS Vixens. It looks great from the tower and external (spot) views and the AI are only missing the glass canopies.

But when I went to the 2D and VC views, this is what it looks like..

I've never encountered anything like this before and am baffled as to why the a/c appears differently in the various views. I've checked everything on the AI aircraft and nothing is modified. I did change the textures to DXT_3 per Wing_Z's post, but the results are the same. There are no peformance hits, BTW.

So, any suggestions on how to at least get this freeware to show all its parts?? :salute:

If not, then Hooky needs some assistance.

Appreciate the Input WH but In fairness I think I may have been told once why that anomaly occurs. You see its not limited to the vixen I've got the fs02 lightning F3's runnning about round binbrook and its the same thing. It's got something to do with the way ithe aircraft were modeled many moons ago and as far as i can tell is in- correctable. however the other reason I wanted a new AI sea vixen made up was because i would like the model with the ability to have folded wings since that was the way they were parked back in the day. I figured if the UKMIL AI buccs can show intake covers when parked & engines off then surely a Vixens wings can be snapped shut by the same event. does that make sense???

Hi All

On Johns recommendation I contacted Gaffer at UKMIL and he has kindly offered to look into doing some AI models for the pack. He has also kindly authorized the use of the UKMIL AI Bucc and AI Hunter to be used in the pack too.

It's in the WIP section, maybe your access needs amending?

But if I tell you it is a lineup of nice looking Sea Vixens (plus an inflight shot) I think you will be happy!

Im actually logged in but i cant see anything or find any mention of the Sea Vixen, is the WIP section a sub forum of another thread,
regardless as to weather we can see the progress or not, its great to see this project getting support from the Gaffer :icon29:
cheers ian

Hey that does look good!

Just got back from Yeovilton Air Day, and it was like a mid-sixties SBAC Farnborough airshow with a Sea Vixen, Vulcan and a four Hunter formation.

It's the first time I've seen the Vixen live, and I've got to admit I was really impressed with it's speed and manouverability, looked superb!

Looks like I'll have some installing to do.....

Cheers

Hooky, any update on the AI package?

Gaffer is hard at work on the AI. the sea vixen is finished and the wessex is well on the way however, It may take a while to put the pack together due to the way the UKMIL system works. Since the AI models they produce are initially only accessible to club members only I will be (at first) Unable/Unauthorized to download or package them in a traffic pack.

However Gaffer has assured me that after a period of time yet to be established he will make the models freeware so that we can include them in a traffic pack. It may take a while longer than anticipated but given the progress shots he has posted it looks to be well worth the wait. it also seems that the FSX crowd (who have just received a patch from me in the SOH library to make the scenery more FSX compliant) will be getting the AI treatment too.

Gaffer really has excelled himself on this one! Just take a look at the screenies on this thread :-
