Revised Marcus & Wake Islands by UncleTgt!

RWills

Your last comment had me digging out the original G2K files (from 2 years ago!).

As Marcus was displaying correctly, but Wake was not, and that they share the same scenery layer within CFS 2, all pointed to an issue with one of the Wake island bgls.

So, I fired up G2K & loaded Wake Island.LWM & went through each line & poly call-out :icon33:

I may have found something!

There is a single section of line that references "PT-waveless-shoreline2", when it should read "sandsu".

Now, if you had Maskriders Gilberts already installed, the scenery would display OK. But - if you didn't - I think you would see what you have described.

So, I recompiled the "wake_Island_8_fixed.bgl & it's attached to this post.

Replace the one currently in your Marcus_Wake_UT/Scenery folder with this one & report back.

If this fixes the display issue for you, I will update the upload accordingly.

Thanks for highlighting this problem.

Thanks

I'll give that a try. I've also been experimenting, first by separately installing Wake and Marcus and so far have found that when I removed the Wake_Island_7_fixed.bgl then I seem to get everything else working (as far as I can tell), certainly a vast improvement and satisfactory results. I'll keep working on it though.

Also, (fyi) apart from the
DEM8
CFS2_Watermasking_01
CFS2_Watermasking_01

the only other scenery I have installed (apart from Marcus/Wake) is

MR Philippines No1 and No2 (with your dark backgrounds texture set)

I'll let you know what progress I make, and post a couple of screenshots.

update

the only file that appears to be causing a problem/conflict for me is the Wake_Island_7_fixed.bgl
If I remove just that single file then everything is fine (obviously I lose some water detail/texture around Wake, but it's still pretty good). Marcus is 100% ok.

So for me, removing the Wake_Island_7_fixed.bgl at least gives a workable solution and allows the Wake scenery to be installed and used.

OK RWILLS,

I've gone back over my notes from the time & decided to approach this from a slightly different angle.

A problem with Wake is that from the overhead view part of the airfield backdrop fails to display. This makes mission builder work pretty difficult, so I included VTP polys for the hardstanding areas.

I suspect the mixing of VTP polys & lines in the same scenery layer is causing the Sim to barf at displaying properly.

So, I've recompiled the VTP poly (Wake_Island_7_fixed.bgl) & eliminated the hardstanding polys.
I've done the same with the VTP lines )Wake_Island_8_fixed.bgl).

Checked, on my system everything displays OK.

I've created 2 new bgls for the hardstanding areas.

Wake_hardstanding_MB_7_fixed.bgl is the VTP polys
Wake_hardstanding_MB_8_fixed.bgl is the VTP line edging for these polys.

I added these to the Sim & flew over Wake again - no issues for me.

For normal flights these 2 bgls are not essential, so you could archive them if you want. But they will help you if you're using Mission Builder & want to place items at Wake....

Try these & let me know if they work (or not).

Thanks.

I've just tried those revised files, and exactly the same thing happens!! So I'll also try on another/different CFS2 install.

Will also try on another PC. I have a lot of CAD/CFD software and it's surprising how they can affect each other sometimes.

Found it! I looked back through the G2K asm file for Wake_Island_7_fixed.bgl.

It calls for 2 bmps, pondwater and lagoon :banghead:

Wake's lagoon reef texture is "lagon2.bmp", & I never included it in the upload.

Nearly everyone will already have this bitmap, as it was created years ago by Jean Bomber for his Truk scenery.

If you have any of my SWPTO sceneries, you'll find a copy in them.

I'll update the zip & re-upload

That's good news! Thanks for taking the time to check. I'll see if I have the lagon2.bmp anywhere (or will download it).
