REX for FSX - which one?

I suspect that the Textures direct pack is just the textures which replace the default FSX textures (and very good they are :) ). The other one includes the REX weather engine along with the texture pack, which although I've got, I've never used.

REX Essentials does include textures and a weather engine (which many didn't like).
REX4 is supposed to be the successor which they are breaking up in modules. "REX4 Texture Direct" is a texture only add-on. The module including a weather engine is due to be released later. So for now, when people talk about "REX4" they mean the texture-only module.
Currently many use the textures of REX4 in combination with another weather engine: ASN, Opus or FSGRW.

Personally, I use REX4 textures (IMO these are way better than the REX Essentials ones) together with ASN. For me that's the best combination for P3D2.

I have both and I've never used the REX weather engine as I also had ASE and now ASN which also works in P3D v2.

REX4 textures are great all around. My only gripe is the water textures where you only have three options dark, medium and light color. In REX essentials you could create your own hue and this is the only thing I still use from REXE both in FSX and P3D.

Thanks for the explanations.

Went with the Essentials - hope I won't regret it.

Did a quick trial flight - sky looked way better, but ocean (near CYVR) was an awful green. Getting a "less tropical looking" water in non tropical areas is was my objective. Clearly, there'll be lots of tweaking here. Since I bought it to address the sky/ground textures (less so for the weather), I debated getting just REX4. My assumption was that all the textures in REX4 were present in REX Essentials - again, hoping this doesn't prove fruitless.

I thing that the textures of REX Essentials are simply wonderful! I say you, you can buy that and you were completly satisfied (my personal opinion)
