F4F-3 black 8, flown by Lt Col Harold William Bauer, VMF-212, USMC, Guadalcanal September-November 1942 Bauer amassed a total of ten kills (plus a probable kill of a Zero) during the bitter fighting for Guadalcanal - one of them while attached to VMF-224, and four (plus the probable) while flying with VMF-223.
