Richard Todd dead at 90

That is a shock. A real war hero best known for playing others.

I was just taking out Dam Busters when I saw this post. That is a movie that has stood the test of time. I understand that there will be a remake in the works for 2010. I don't think it could carry the charm of the first. Rest in peace.:medals:
 
They didn't mention it in that article, but in the movie The Longest Day Todd played Maj. John Howard, commander at the Pegasus Bridge assault. In real life Todd was there that night fighting alongside Howard.

Lastly, just for some lighter info...........I always get uncomfortable .....yet find it slightly ironic and ......just wierd............. on what the dogs name in the Dam buster.........yes .......now its extremely politcally incorrect..........but it dates the film and the times......it meant something different then.........and today ..I would never........repeat never ........name a dog that .........

Not only Richard Todd served in WWII. Many other future stars served, as well.

David Niven - Officer in the British Commandos

Lee Marvin - Marines (wounded and Distinguished Service Cross on Iwo Jima)

Bob Keshin (Captain Kangaroo) - Marines (DSC on Iwo, as well and Lee Marvin's platoon Sergeant) - "The bravest man I ever met." (Quote from Lee Marvin)

James Garner - Army (wounded at Anzio)
 
Richard Todd

Richard Todd was a true gentleman, soldier, and a great actor. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace and may god have mercy on his soul.

Don't forget Colonel James Stewart of the USAAF. A lesser star, perhaps, but a genuine USN ace, was Wayne Morris. Like Niven and Todd, both of these had flourishing careers which they gave up in order to go and fight.
