Rick Piper's HS780 Andover

Got a bit all 'Matt Wynn' and decided to tweek a couple of paintjobs that are available on flightsim.com to be a bit more representative of
'Andover' users...

Ps. Matt, where's me Chippy!!??

Go for it Pete :applause:

Rick's beautiful HS 748 and Andover are timeless gems - arguably among the best turboprops ever made for fs2004 - goodness knows how many hours of sheer pleasure flying I've wrung out of them.

The VC is superb, the sounds: 'being there'!

Oooooh, memories! And very fond ones to boot.

Too bad that the real deal wasn't as popular as its pax counterpart. Would have worked well in conjunction with the 748 in the arctic wilderness.

Yes, once tuned to the dart you can fly it by ear!
ITRW I used to fly as crew chief on Fokker 27's hauling freight.

I have most of the Dart engined sim offerings, YS11, Argosy, Viscount, and Herald.
Wish there was a Fokker 27 with vc.

IIRC the only ones made were for the RAF contract. The RAF disposed of them to New Zealand, and kept a few back
for specialist tasks. A few escaped to Africa after retirement in New Zealand.

Lucky man, Pete! (drool)

The nearest I ever got to flying in an aircraft of this category was an Olympic Airways NAMC YS-11 in the 70's - spent half the ride yacking about the virtues of the HS 748 to my newly wed bride (we were on honeymoon) only to discover on landing that it was a NAMC YS-11.:isadizzy::kilroy:

The Viscount...Ahhh, what a beauty!

BTW, I reckon Milton's new Dash will be just the job for you, and I promise to make the sounds 'fly-by-ear'too.
:wavey:

fly by ear? what we stick our head into the panel and it detects our twitching ears and translates them into control inputs? :icon_lol:

Closest i've got was inside one at the RAF Museum at Cosford, lovely aircraft... i think in that era Britain really did have some real lovely airliners/cargohaulers... from the 60's and 70's we have the worlds first '5 engined jet' the Trident... (5 jets because, here we go, 3 main engines, the APU and the 'Boost' Engine if i recall), the BAC 1-11, the 'Vicky ten' (My personal favourite), the Andover, the 748, the 780....

I can't believe they let you in there - bet you got thrown out for trying to re-paint all the aircraft in your demo scheme!:icon_lol:

They look lovely pete, hope you release them soon, got fond memories of Andovers, our family used to go to Emsworth for our summer hols when i was kid, RAF Thorney island was just down the road, so my dad used to take me there and watch the Andovers doing take-off and landings,
cheers ian

neither could i believe they let me in, but i did take along a few old Humbrol paint lids to check the colours for accuracy... in fact i might have to make a trip down to Cosford early next year.... just hide me compressor and spray cans out of sight :icon_lol:

Retirement in New Zealand?

Nothing "retires" to New Zealand - they probably worked harder there than in the RAF! And much loved they were as well. Here's a pic I took many moons ago - 3 planes, 3 schemes..they flew originally in the RAF middle east colours with RNZAF marings then branched out from there...the white one is a UN scheme.

O rats.. that's my retirement plan up in smoke then!! :jump:

'Britsim.com' file library has three of those NZ repaints, (VIP, RAF sand, and UN); Ian Warren was working on the green camouflage
according to an old post on NZFSIM ; but haven't seen it anywhere for d/load

Due to copyright and other stuff like that, I won't be uploading these publicly.
I have shared them with a few guys here via a private file host, and in turn, they can pass them along,
(you know who you are), as I'm away working again for next few days.

Historically you can date the sand coloured ones @ 1968,
and the other one @ 1978.

cheers Pete! and i've only just noticed the new phrase for 'going mental with the paint' as "Pulling a 'Matt' " :icon_lol:

I'd be very interested to be on the 'mailing list'. These look great and I would love to add them to my fleet.
