Rise of Flight (preorder)

so the release date has been pushed back a little...

funny how so many people got the impression that it was an online game only and had no single player mode at all (or that it was tacked on as an afterthought) when the first three paragraphs in every press release I've seen are all about single player.

IL2 is also claimed to be a strong SP sim. Until I see otherwise, any claim to a comprehensive SP/campaign mode seems like hype. Hope I'm wrong of course though, but given that you only get 3 planes or such stock and have to buy more additionally, the SP mode looks kind of limited unless youre willing to shell out more cash. And as the updates go, you may not notice them being installed, but that means you wont be able to choose which updates to have or not. Guess we shall see in a bit though how wrong I am :)

how much additional cash have you shelled out for FSX???

if you are like me its in the hundreds of dollars...

I don't mind buying addons at all - I'm already doing it and have done it for every flight sim title I've ever owned.

I don't get it why every time a new sim comes along its like everyone was just born

Im just afraid they'll want 15-20 dollars per plane. I buy an addon for FSX because I want it, but in a combat sim, having to get additional planes (when you start with just a couple; and no stock Albatroses?) seems like a necessity to me... But I wont speculate on RoF anymore as it's not that far off from US release. Just need some screenshots :)

There is a few nice YouTube video of the Beta test team online playing as well as some other videos, trailers and such. Also I think it is out in Russia already, but it was developed there too so I guess they get first dibs.

It's certainly taken the developers a long time to get things to this stage. I was still out in Denver, trying to recover from the demise of Knights Over Europe when screen shots for this game first started to come out. That was over 3 years ago. Fortunately for the developers, the technology for the computers has improved in that time and more people should have a good time flying it instead of having a slide show.

Some of my online friends from KOE days got to know the developers rather well and unlike the studio I worked at, the developers actually listened to and got input from the WW1 aviation community. What a concept. Hopefully ROF will succeed where we didn't.

I just got it - thanks gogamer and Jason of the 777 studios !

and the DR1 IS included along with a few other surprises not mentioned in the press release...

well - thats what I would like to say the day I get it...

well why the hell would they use the Dr1 as a marketing ploy in FSX if they weren't going to have it in the original release?!

and what about all those WIPs featuring the Nieuport 17 and 28 and the Alby and this Dr1

not that I care either way - included or released for purchase shortly after I will get them all...but the Dr1 really needs to be in the box on day one, no?

Well my sources (the ever reliable internet!) tell me that a Spad XII, Fokker DVII, and the Fokker Dreidekker are the release planes. For those in RUssia, the Nieuport 17(?) was included with the release but is an addon for others.

Those are some pretty aggressive recommended specs. I'll be interested to hear reports from users of slightly weaker systems than that when it's finally released.
