Now that I know we have this aircraft available I was planning on doing the IJN Cruiser Chikuma's JII-1 skin. The problem is that once I started trying to use it I found out that it really isn't functional as a floatplane. It seems to just sit stuck in the water, incapable of moving, and every landing is an instant crash.

Has anyone else had this problem, and figured out what's wrong? Are the contact points wrong? Not enough engine power? Any ideas?

Hi Major,

Attached are a set of revised FM files. I have it landing easily, taxi around come to a complete stop and you can take off after landing. (throttle back up wait a few seconds)

Where I do have a problem is when you shut the engine down after landing and then try to restart. I get the message that auto start failed and to try manual start.

The same thing happens if you chose a mission with a ground start, I cant start the engine.

I have included the original .air file as well as the new one. with the original air file you can restart the engine but you cant get the plane moving after you have started it.

So its better but not perfect, I'll keep experimenting.

regards Rob.

Hi Major,

copy these contact points into the .cfg file I uploaded. it places a few of the scrape points a bit better so you see splash on wingtip touches and lowers the point at which the main pontoons make a splash/wake.

Thanks, that worked pretty well. It only get's stuck occasionally now.

Interestingly, something you changed made the Engine Autostart function to stop working.

JII-1 was flown by PO1c Akira Ito (Pilot), PO Masaaru Fukuoka (Observer) and PO3c Fushanobu Kasamori (gunner). At 0530 hrs this IJN cruiser Chikuma's three-seater Aichi E13A1 'Jake' flew to Pearl Harbor anchorage to survey target area and report on the conditions. At 0645 hrs Chikuma's E13A1 track was picked up by Oahu based US Army mobile radar post at Opana Ridge. At 0735 hrs the Japanese crew reported: 'Enemy formation at anchor, nine battleships, one heavy cruiser, six light cruisers'. The pilot related conditions important to the approaching first wave: 'Wind direction from 80 grad, speed 14m, clearance over enemy fleet 1,700m, cloud density seven.' Then at 0738 hrs radioed, 'The enemy fleet in Pearl Harbor'. Having reported, the pilot swept wide to the south, trying to find the American carriers.
