Rising Sun Terrain WIP- Sino Theater

rbp71854

PTO Solomons ,PTO Rising Sun, ETO Expansion
The 1st half of this year I have been working on China terrain. All river and lake water has been added to mainland China and Formosa. The major focus has been on completing Formosa. RRs, and roads have been completed. Presently I am working on detailed creation of major cities, ports and airfields using a new techinique. Instead of creating individual mosaics, mos and facilities files of the airfields runways, and roads I am creating the mosaics by rendering the images as area vectors in global mapper and then running them through the terrainsdk to create vector mosaics.

This process has "0" impact on fps.

The following are screenshots of Okayama Airdrome on Formosa in Global Mapper and what the results look like in the sim. The final screenie shows the Karenko metro area and the conversion of the China tropical terrain to an ETO type terrain. When a theater is selected a new batch file is run which switches the terrain from tropical or China type terrain to the appropriate terrain for the selected theater.

I, too, am awed both by the quantity and quality of your work in making this a greater sim for the rest of us.

thanks for the update, much appreciated.

I like to see how the different CFS3 projects (theaters, aircrafts, missions...) are in progress.

Godd looking result, Bob. Sounds like a clever way to do the processing, improve the performance. I am amazed, also.

Thanks folks for taking a look and showing some interest. However, six responses, has me wondering if there is really not that much interest in RS or wip updates?

:wavey:Hey Bob: I for one am :redfire:extremely interested in anything pertaining to Rising sun. Please keep your good work . I am awed both by the quantity and quality of your work in making this a greater sim for all of us. :salute:
Love RS:ernae:

Definitively interested!

Just that I'm not flying very much these days (got a bit distracted by that nasty thing called reallife), so I'm a bit slower in responding here then I used to be!

:running:

But looks great, can't wait to test it when time comes. Wonder if the new approach will have a impact on framerates, positiv or negativ....

Hi Bob,

I've yet to install RS, but it all looks fantastic, and I've see that this threads had 213 views! I can relate to your feelings though. I look at some of missions and see a decent number of downloads, and only a dozen or so comments from the usual gang, just the nature of the beast I guess. The scale of your work is awe inspiring.

I'll add one just for encouragement as well. I have RS downloaded but not installed (real life again...) But this work is really nice, and if you've found a better way to do it with lower frame rates, then Bravo! to you! or as Teddy Roosevelt would say, "Bully! Bully! Bully!

Rising Sun is important to me as it's a completely different type of theater requiring different mission planning, etc. Plus there is more of my beloved F4-U Corsair!

Hang in there!

Tom
