Rock and Roll threads: how heavy can you handle it?

Music this brutal is an acquired taste. You either love it or hate it, and I suspect most here will loathe these songs. Being a big fan of this stuff and a veteran lead guitarist of many metal bands, the insults to it don't bug me. It's all in fun anyway.

Same here.
Other than that playing myself since 1975, 24 years as a prof/semi prof on and off I can stand quite a bit of trash.:icon_lol: though my favorite stuff is still what you would call today classic rock and blues.

don't get me wrong, I'm a huge classic rock fan. I actually feel odd calling bands like led zep classic......Anyway, for some reason as my musical taste matures, I desire heavier and heavier music such as this. My first love was classical, and then it was punk rock. Punk is still at the top. A lot of this has been brought on by bandmates introducing me to this stuff. I wasn't really a metalhead five years ago, but I get recruited into bands just because I can shred. It seems most guitarists just don't learn scales.

i've been made of metal from the beginning. i even made metal my trade.
i was never a fan of that kind of voice, but the music is cool.

currently, i am jammin to these guys alot:

UnderOath. It's a different kind of heavy...

I've seen them live once and they are by far the most energetic group I've ever seen...Best...show...ever.:ernae:

Oh hell yeah, love these guys. was jamming to Black City on the way home today.

I was listening to an online radio stations in Europe the other day and heard some great, great songs, but since I couldn't understand the announcer, have no clue who they were, LOL.

Being an ex-musician I try to listen to a wide variety of music, I like heavy as long as there are some hooks and it's not just noise. Probably one of the reasons my GF puts up with me. Surprisingly, she loves lots of the late 80/s, early 90's bands I used to share stages with/ hang out with despite her being almost half my age, LOL.

hey, here is a question for you guitarists (actually a couple questions)

1) do you ever use the backing tracks available online?
2) if you do, how about sharing some links? i know of a few, freshbt, and guitar backingtrack.com, looking for some others, especially blues ones, if you know some cool ones.

80's hairbands are ok but I'm finding myself listening more and more to opera/power metal, Nightwish,Hammerfall,Within Temptation,Stratovarius, Magica, and other bands with a similar sound.

Since I started playing guitar a few years ago my musical tastes have become more "open minded".

Holy crap Stiz !!! That Droid song scared the bejeezus out of me  :bump:

Darrell

Manowar. Greatest band in the world and best live show I've ever seen.

But yes, I do love metal in all of it's forms and sub-genres, I'm fairly open minded musically with a collection ranging to everything from baroque classical to 80's pop to industrial to extreme metal and pretty much everything in between, the more bizarre and avant garde the better, but if pushed would probably have to list metal as my favourite genre.

I've always been a fan of the more battle and folk oriented and bands like Bal Sagoth and Korpiklaani and appreciate good black metal like Emperor and Mayhem as well. There's always room for some Blind Guardian, Tyr, Skyclad, Satyricon and Rockbitch, and of course the classic stuff like Saxon. There are literally thousands of other bands and hundreds of little metal sub genres on my playlist, these are just a few that have recently played on Itunes.

On a current search for some more "new" (to me) music on a worldwide basis.
I cannot help it, but I still like it very hard and dirty. But though I love dirty sounds I do prefer people who are top notch instrumentalists in what they do. So I found these guys (and gal):

Can´t understand a single word, but they bring some energy and melodic diversity I haven´t heard for a long time. Gotta love them:

Some "heavy stuff" with a typical frequent change of melody lines throughout the song:
