Rollus' F-8E Crusader

I know this is probably a lost cause, Roland Laborie’s F-8E Crusader is an older model and probably not on the top 10 list any longer. But I like the jet and would like to get it back on the active service list for FS9. Problem is, no matter how I install it, it kills the sim. I have tried doing the standard installation, both manually and in compatibility mode for Win7. The manual installation (manually installing from a temp folder), does allow the sim to load it, and will place the model on the ramp of your favorite FBO, but exiting the flight causes FS9 to quit working. The sim will allow you to fly the model as well, but it seems a bit jerky and the image stumbles once in a while. The compatibility mode install, both manual and by the executable self installer won’t allow the flight to load at all, even tho the plane appears in the viewing window when selected from the drop down list. Hit the “Fly Now” button and FS9 stops dead in its tracks.
Just for the record, I have the "Bull Stearman" for FS9 installed, one of the most memory intensive aircraft models out there, and my gaming machine runs that plane with full scenery like a hot knife through butter.

I was just curious if any of you knew of any issues, such as a corrupted gauge, texture, or effect. I have tried both the copy of “crusader.zip” from my FS storage back-up, and a fresh download from Flightsim. I get the same results from both copies.
Flightsim is a reputable source for downloads IMO.
When I ran WinXP, Roland’s F-8E flew smooth as silk, and my XP machine was a slower PC than my Win7 machine.... MUCH SLOWER.

I have it working in win7 , no bother, try remarking gauge #54 out of the panel cfg...
Code:
 //gauge54=CRUZXML!CrusaderFpc,0,0,1,1

ttfn

Yeah... I did comment out that gauge, I'm guessing it was in the VC config for both panels (//gauge54=CRUZXML!CrusaderFpc,0,0,1,1). The jet loads up but the image is still shaky when panned in the panel and spot view. Dumps the sim on the "End Flight" command.:pop4: Kinda odd me thinks... I have Roland's superb Mirage 2000 installed and it works beautifully.

Thanks for the tip anyhow... :encouragement:

Having misplaced my old copy, I re-downloaded it just last week and it works on my system just fine. Maybe yours has a corrupt gauge or two? There are a few gauge-driven effects on that model that might cause the issue. Try a fresh download from a different site.

I have much the same problem with my Flight1 PC-12: there is a programming fault in the engine gauge cluster than causes massive slowdowns and system leaks.

I installed the Rollus Crusader a long while ago but have never flown it ,so after reading about the problems I decided to try it out.I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. After loading up fine the first time it crashed the sim when I tried to switch to another version.I commented out the gauge 54 in all the versions panel config VC section, and that helped but it still crashes the sim once in a while when I try to make any changes like location or changing aircraft, not as often as before, but it still happens.

Perhaps try to disable groups of gauges in panel.cfg until you find faulty ones?

I have shelved my copy for now. I'm going to check out Roland's site, (if it's still out there), and download another fresh copy. If all else fails, I will take Kikas' suggestion, roll the jet into the service hangar and start pulling gauges. A lot of work, and a project non the less.... if all else fails.

Thanks for the tips, mates!

EDIT: Just downloaded a fresh copy of "crusader.zip" from Simviation. Used the installer in "compatibility mode", installed from a temp folder into the sim as well as ran the installer directly into FS9 (second attempt). No joy. Commented out gauge54 in the VC for all panel versions... no joy. At this point it could be anything, a gauge, an errant texture format... The "project" is too complex to try to find the bug that's causing the issue at this point so I'm cancelling it altogether.
