I have made airfield Templates for Burma ( for AVG missions I'm working on ) the Sino map ( for CATF missions ) and Port Morseby in the PNG.

I have the coordinates for the airfields so they are in the correct locations.

I know Bob has been working on the Sino map but from what I understand it was mostly in the Formosa area. The airfields I have are for the Northern part and where used by the CATF and Japanese.

In Burma I put in a few Japanese airfields that they used the AVG attacked.I also put in some Port facilities arong Mingalodon.

For PNG I put in Jackson and Ward airfields and Port facilities.

All this is only temporary until the maps are done.

Interesting and usefull stuff.

In the 'Big Guns & Strafers' mission pack I've made, I have also placed airfields in the PNG theater using exact lat/lon coordinates, feel free to use this stuff if you want.

LZ,

Seems nobody but you have any interest.

Have to agree Al. There seems to be very little interest in the FE and PTO in this community. Noticed that back when I posted some screenshots of present work accomplished in the Sino portion of RS. Presently taking a time out on further development work, once this latest update is released. No sense continueing the development if we get very limited feedback on our efforts.

I'm sure there is interest . . . I am certainly interested and appreciate the work being done. I just don't think that the majority of members here grasp how truly complex and time consuming terrain work must be. So when updates are posted there is not an overwhelming response. I'm not saying members here are ignorant, just that there might be a disconnect when it comes to this sort of work. It's not as common as making a skin or effects and posting it in the DL section.

I'm with you Bob and taking a break.Since no one wants to speakup it's useless to keep trying to improve things. You try to share things with the community and you are met with silence. I know someone will say " Well it's summer time and most have vacation". This thread got a 100 hits so that is BS. I've been on vacation since June 1 and get back in September and still work on things.

Things I've worked on.

AVG-Will be 40 missions.

CATF- 25 missions.

Rabaul - 10 missions. I also have done some for PTO.

Battle of the Coral Sea -10 missions.

Pearl What If - What if the Japanese decided to invade Hawaii.-25 missions.

For PTO been doing Cactus Airforce Missions using the P-400 and F4F.

But with the lack of interest all will stay on my HD when finished.

All these missions are Historical and not Hysterical like someone else makes missions.

Hey, guys. There's interest. It's summer and most are outside unless it rains.

I get PMs and emails all the time about RS, usually about what's next.

I had alot more to say but deleted it in the spirit of not wanting to start a pissing contest and lock the thread down.

I'll just say that I enjoy those "hysterical" missions every bit as much as I enjoy the historical ones. And that "someone else" guy doesn't require me to grovel at his feet in exchange for them.

I for one am excited by what's going on in Rising Sun. Perhaps sometimes I'm not as vocal as I ought about it though. I agree interest in the Pacific is lower on this forum than Europe, but I think it will continue to grow as work progresses. Meanwhile, there are a number of people who enjoy it now.

So I will just ride off into the sunset and say " Farewell ".

Am looking foward to all your RS work, and getting 'Battle of Australia', in. I think RS is great, I had drama taking 6 months to install; there is a 'trick' apparently to getting it to load on Win7. I did, and am trying to enjoy it very much. I can definitely see the 'Big Picture' in what you guys are trying to create. It's mind boggling, so please don't give up!!

Can see that with all Theatres put together, your heading towards a 'CFS3 Global Warfare Sim', which has the capability to install all historical records as permanent memorial and museum.

That is pretty impressive.

It might even be possible to get all operating as one giant Sim. one day; instead of ETO, all theatres including Korea (guess you've thought of it).
[CFS3 terrain, etc might even lend itself to Vietnam era. Of course Skyraiders, Caribou, transports etc.]

Looking forward to the 'gaps' in RS being filled in. It's true that some might n't really appreciate the terran development, unless really thinking about the time put in, and difficulty.

I think the Pacific story is so BIG, so many resources, it's hard to comprehend. It really needs the sim completed to help understand. Staggering nos.of aircraft in Brittain/Europe, staggering here too.

So guys, take a 'Vote of Confidence': someone else is not only interested but very grateful!!:salute:

Ps: hope those Missions don't get buried in the HD

So, you are going to take your toys and go home is that it? You are going to punish everyone else because I didn't stand for you insulting a fellow member and posted a few disagreeable words? Very petty indeed. If you leave it is on your own account, I'm not pushing you to do anything.

+1;)

Talon,
Your work is welcomed by many here.. me included..
Don't let your self be mislead in thinking there is no interest..
I would say there is Great interest in your efforts..
Keep up the effort for those who appreciate the work you have done and will do for all..

Contrary to what you think, what you said had very little to do with it.In the middle of August and for the rest of the year I wouldn't be able to contrubute much anyway. It will be back to playing music professionally which I've been doing for over 40 years. My spare time will be spent working on model railroading. I basically work on flight sims when I'm on vacatiion or on the road. This year I've had alot of time to work on the Sims because I've only been home 3 maybe 4 weeks so far.

Actually I'll be sailing North to get home and not into the sunset.

My toys are already home waiting for me.They are 2 pianos, 5 sets of keyboards and 2 accordions for when people want Polka music.

Interesting comments. I for one whilst very much appreciating the hard work and many hours that go into modding this sim, do not have a great interest in the Pacific war and what little sim-time I do have I like to work on BoB which is my own area of interest. But perhaps a few more encouraging posts from me and other folks would not go amiss so I for one apologise for my laziness. :)

However, I have learned over the years that you must do work such as this primarily for yourself and your own interests and not for a wider audience - that's just a bonus if you can share what you've done. I spent many years and countless hours builidng a model railway in our shed and no one except me ever saw it, there's no reason why this hobby should be any different.

Just my tuppence worth. I think you're all fine chaps for doing what you do.

CFS 3 is dying slowly, number of downloawds is decreasing day after day while CFS 2 community seems to be much more active. These are facts.

It takes a lot of time to build something. As an exemple, for historical mission: historical research (hours and hours of reading), building the mission itself (finding correct aircraft, skin, vehicule, gun or anything other object, placing everything...), making the briefing-debriefing sections, losing a huge amount of time with damned spawns scripts, testings... sometimes, a mission that seems to be simple to build can be very time consuming to setup just a detail, this is the case I have at the moment with a particular mission.

I first build them for myself using what others have released, it would never have been possible to do this with CFS 3 stock. So, I release these missions to the community (which takes time because I have to adapt missions as I don't necessary use the same aircrafts but also, making the readme file, the screen shot...), I don't care if there is 1 or 100 downloads because I have them on my HS.

All I know is that I appreciate all the work that goes into CFS3. The terrain builders, mission builders, modlers all of you! Just the few mission sets I have made makes me more aware of what is involved and more appreciative of the time involved.

Thanks to ALL!

I'd say Pat Pattle's got it about right and I think sometimes we all lose perspective.

Talon: Your work is always appreciated for its thoroughness and accuracy, but that isn't any reason to belittle the work of others. I hope you will see your way clear to continue your valuable contributions. I am not always as quick to say so as perhaps I should be.

I couldn't wait to download Rising Sun, and I have been waiting for the AVG to be brought forward ever since. That is a whole little world in itself. I suspect that the reason for a slow response to it is the slow development of it. Now don't get me wrong: I have dabbled in mission creation and do have a sense of the enormous amount of work it takes to get them right. The Rising Sun addon is a giant undertaking, and if it were a model railroad, it would have to encompass the entire eastern portion of the US circa 1940! That's a lot of trackwork...

So, I hope cfs3 isn't dying for lack of interest, and that the folks who are able to make it better for the rest of us will continue to do so.

And it is true: It's summer and I spend a lot of time on our sailboat (this year involves more messing about it seems as opposed to sailing).

Perhaps a breather for all might help.

Actually CFS2 is slowly dying too.The main thing keeping it alive is the conversion of planes from FS9. There are only a few people that make missions and campaigns for it. Some new scenery for Truk has been made but other than that nothing much has been done.

Kelly-As for CFS3 mission building, the CFS3 mission builder is the worst I've worked with. The CFS2 mission builder is probably the best and IL2 next.

Pat I have your BoB also and fly some of my missions in it.BoB is the only type of missions I enjoy in ETO. Even tjough I did alot of missions for the ETO Expansian I have never flown them since.

Now CFS3 has always been for the European theater and this community is more ETO based because of that. I think MAW is second on most peoples list of areas to fly and the PTO/RS theaters are last except for a few people. That's just the way it is.

This community supported Maw Team for years before it came out and you supported ETO. Now it's time to support Rising Sun.Remember also there is only 1 Man doing the scenery work for RS and it would be nice to show him more encouragement. Like he said in an earlier post he may just finish Sino because of lack of interest. Who gets the blame if that happens? Think about it.
