Huge nasty cyclone homing in on North Queensland Australian coast. Lots of people clearing out of the way. Just below Cat.3 at this stage...expecting Cat. 4 when crossing the coast late tomorrow.

I just read a news article where they said they were expecting winds of up to 280 kilometres per hour by the time it hits land.

Right at the top of the Category 4 scale :icon_eek:

Gone to Cat.5 now, eye now forecast landfall Cairn's to Innisfail area about midnight our time (14:00 gmt). Lot of people getting out of the way of this one.

Not a good prospect, King Tides and Storm Surges predicted at 10M+ or higher in some areas, while the eventual move inland will be devastating for Primary Producers.
All the makings of another 'Tracy'!!!!!
Update:Winds expected to top 300KPH and cyclone will most probably continue inland where it will be at Cat.3 strength.
The last Cat.5 cyclone to cross the Queensland coast was in 1918.
