The Saturday Wall Street Jounal reported that Russia will bid on the USAF KCX program its entry will be the IL-96.

Cheers

Casey

I don't know what to say yet, so I'm just going to say HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA!!:applause:

Can't see why not..... Il-96 is a beautiful thing! Good Luck Russia :ernae:

(I can Say that as my religion is closer to Russia than that of the West :icon_lol:)

i don't think it matters where it comes from as long as it does it's job, heck airbus could send an A380 as a joke... a KC-A380 :wiggle: what are the KC-X Contenders?

I'm not entirely sure what to think of this.

Perhaps the Russians are wanting to flog the aircraft as a means of repairing relationships.

Perhaps the US will consider it for this reason.

Perhaps this is a Russian scheme to get the US to integrate an aircraft into the air force that they know inside and out.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

Things may be better with the West, but we can't fool ourselves into thinking that Russia is good buddies with all of our countries. The idea of a Russian aircraft in the USAF is insane. I'd rather buy the stinkin' Airbus.

"On August 11, 2009 Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Khristenko announced that the manufacturing of the long-range airplanes of this class would be canceled. In particular, the Il-96-300 airplane had been deemed inferior to counterparts from Boeing and Airbus, and the manufacturer could not arrange commercially viable mass production, making only one airplane per year.[2] The cargo version of the airplane, Il-96-400, will remain in production. This effectively means that Russia is left without a domestically manufactured long-range wide-body passenger airplane."

From the aircraft's wikipedia page.

US Tanker replacement has marked with the scarlet letter since onset.....To complicate matters further, the EADS (A330) tanker is newer platform than the 767, carries more fuel than the 767, and has longer range than the 767......

When the smoke & dust settles, we'll probably have a modified F-22 tanker :d :d :d

Disclaimer: Let's hope we don't have to close this one :)

There is zero chance the United States will place the long term logistical support of its vital tanker fleet in the hands of the Russians -- flat out isn't happening!

Crazier sh*t has happened. We placed the long term success of our space program in the hands of Nazis.....

Anyway, the manufacturing capacity of this aircraft is only one per year. It won't happen, and I doubt it's even a serious bid. The Russians love their little jokes.

They will at lest give a plane that will fly and fuel up planes....

This program won't die. It a Zombie program. It won't die!!!!

Zombie Tanker Program will eat you PLANES!!!:icon_lol:

Back in the day, most other NATO air forces envied us for having some actively serving MiGs in our inventory...

Can't see what's wrong with multinational equipment or at least other nations offering theirs in a bidding. Free market et al.

Well they do seem keen...
Remember the Russian state bank Vneshtorgbank bought 41 million EADS shares (the Airbus holding company), so they would've had a stake in the tanker programme.
Russia seems to have embraced capitalism in the biggest way - they probably have a bid on the US nuke arsenal upgrade :d - as well as that of Iran, N Korea and India.
Pakistan too, probably, although the US seems to have that base covered these days.

One word. PARTS

Imagine in a time of war and Russia decides they won't sell the US parts.

Shoud that happen we will make are own parts.

If they could copy are B-29 and A-bomb we can copy afew MIGs.

Pardon my political correctness, or lack thereof here, but, my feelings and gut instinct says, that "If its going to be used as material for the U.S. Military forces, then by god it should all be made in the U.S.A."

I'm really getting tired of other countries sucking US Dollars out of this economy and making a mint at the expense of trying to equip the U.S. Military.

This country has proven in the past it is quite capable of making state of the art equipment for its troops, and this country needs to get back to the basics and doing just that. AND the U.S. Miliatary needs to hone in on Buy USA only, and quit buying foreign made stuff.

(I'll get off my soapbox now.)

Right!

And those parts will take how long to manufacture domestically?

Meanwhile our tanker fleet is potentially grounded!

Are you really saying you have no issue with this?

Ken

I've got zero concerns buying stuff from our good allies -- Canada, Australia, Japan, Great Britain, and as they ramp up their production, most of the East European nations also like Poland. However, nations that in the past have either used their government to stymie parts shipments in response to US actions they don't like, or have recently done things that run counter to US interests, simply cannot be given such a powerful veto option to our national defense options.

I find it really interesting some seem unable to appreciate how vital it is for the US to have flexible response options.

Cheers,

Ken

Not realy. Just about any parts made for any body is made in China at some point. So if Russia gose after us China won't be far behind. Any way you look at we screwed and going :gameoff:...
