A mixed-power naval fighter, with a R-1820 radial in the nose and an I-16 jet engine in the tail. The FR-1 was completely flush-riveted, had a laminar flow wing, and tricycle undercarriage. The FR-1 was too late for participation in WWII, and only 66 were built. They were retired in November 1947.
