You guys Do know i've never done this before right?? So bear with me Ok?? Please?? ..
Anyway, I just uploaded the pre-release beta version of the S-100 for your enjoyment.. It still has two small texture issues which will be getting fixed, and the custom 2D panel Set is not complete and therefore not included.. A Paintkit IS available using 4096 tiff textures.. Just PM me if you would like a copy..
At this time, the Boat itself has been sent off to the Artists for baking and i'm expecting top see some pretty exciting stuff from them.. There is no manual at the moment, but controls are simple.. "A" takes you from the bridge into the wheelhouse. Shift-A takes you back too the bridge. Ctrl-E starts the engines, while Shift-E opens the torpedo doors.. Since sailing around the ocean is about as exciting as batting at flies, i designed the boat to be able to navigate rivers. Although some rivers require more than a bit of suspended disbelief, they can still be extremely challenging and fun..
to download the file, just do a search under my name or S-100 Class Schnellboote and it will take you right too it..
I do hope you enjoy.. :)

Grabbing it now and will be running it off of San Clemente in a short. Looks good, just have to get the Black Lagoon running this weekend too.

Just took it for a spin around the Island. Using AI Carriers I was able to hold station with the Coral Maru and the New York. Very fast to speed and turns in a more stable manner than the payware PT boat, I think this has to do with this being a deep "vee" hull vice a planing hull. Will be doing more in the AM on the club server. Think I'll install the CS weapon pack for the guns as well as add a different radar. Good job all around Pam, I'll be making some paints for this later on, who do you want on the wheel house, Revy, Kana-chan, Balalanka or Sagara?

Balalaika if you please :) I think that in every way except modeling, this boat will be far superior to anything thats been offered in the patrol boat range before.. I learned a lot working on the delta sim boat and the SOH pt lazarus uploaded, and then i took it to the extreme.. Even the minimum turn radius on this boat is exact.. horespower, rpm, speed: i'll be honest, somewhere i got lucky and it all fell into place.. There IS a paint kit, and its unlike anything ive seen on any fs addon before.. You can paint individual parts of individual parts if you so desire.. They're all mapped out.. I apologize for the slightly modernized wheelhouse but only one image exists that shows the chainlocker and whats on it, and that was from an S-14. Oddly, until after the war, Schnellboote had no radar. They had radar detection equipment.. you could see everyone within miles, but no one could see you till you were right on top of them, and even then there is at least one instance where the schnellboote ran along side of an american cruiser for half an hour before they were discovered and challenged.. Schnellboote games :;lol:;..

OH, And for those of you wondering like i did; The gey thing on the fordeck with the post sticking up is the gun tub cover.. The barrel would be removed from the 2CM foredeck gun and the gun itself would be pointed straight up. the cover would then be lowered over the gun and clamped into place.. The gunners could enter the tub from inside the ship to help remove and reposition the cover.. The ten sided white circle around the foredeck gun are ammo boxes, which became standard on the S-100 series of boats..

Pam, we ran 2 E-booten and one of the lighters last night in the Solomons. The E boats looked and ran well. Forgot to run FRAPS so we didin't get any shots but they look sooo good riding that low in the water. I can't find the paint kit and for some reason my paint program was having trouble opening the textures last night.
I am going to load the boat and any re-paints on the club's site so everyone can find them in one spot. Now all we need is a Vosper and one of the IJN PT boats, but that's waaayyy down the line.

BTW, for my own use I'm going to change the 2D background from the speed boat panel to one of Mr Welker's panels for the German lighters, either that or I'll find something more appropriate.

A beautiful model and it runs very well. The North sea where I live was the hunting ground of these boats. In the Netherlands the Germans had 4 harbours with E- and S-boats. The textures are the part which can use some improvement (the boat is very clean!), However the included textures don't give me a clue about the texture lay-out.

Thanks for all your efforts!

WOW! that is Gorgeous ! :cool:<input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><input jscode="leoInternalChangeDone()" onclick="if(typeof(jsCall)=='function'){jsCall();}else{setTimeout('jsCall()',500);}" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">

Thanks guys.. Much appreciated..
The textures are in Smoothies hands at the moment being baked onto the boat.. The ones that come with the boat are the dds files and pretty much nothing but the 4096 block of color textures.. They really just are there as indicators of the base texture for each region and part of the boat.. And yup, right no its super clean.. Thats because I cant use a brush to save my life, and why Smoothie and Firekitten have them right now..
The actual paint kit which i'll upload here soon, has full texture maps on the bottom layer.. I apologize I cant be more professional about them and put them on a transparent top layer like many of or developers here do, but this has been a major learning curve for me and well,, I just havent figured out how to do that yet.. bear with me here :)..
And yes, the boat was used from the balkans down into france with major bases at cherbourgh Rotterdam and two cities i haen't learned about yet, but did you folks know that the boat was used by over six nations?? That the last S-boat was retired from service in 1977?? hehe surprised me too.. Oddly enough, 1977 was also the year that the danish put the willemoes class patrol boat into service, which design wise is a hull that appears to be half PT boat ( mtb ) and half S-boat.. It's gorgeous.. But this boat, or rather its forebearers was the first of them all.. America and Britain went with Destroyers after WWI. Germany built S-boats. So, it could be said that the success of this boats basic design was the root of the entire patrol boat family tree.. :)

Thank You too.. Over the years you, like this boat have helped me to learn the difference between Nazi' and Germans. Youve helped me to look past the sky high walls of my own prejudice and see the humanity underneath the politics and propaganda. For that, no words are sufficient.. The men who manned these boats were Just soldiers, like many of us here: Brave, young scared outta their minds half the time. Too quick to laugh, just as quick to cry. Their stories are as incredible as the boats they sailed on, and its been a most amazing experience..

Dont put too much effort into the panel.. The final non beta release will have a fully custom 2D panel set too mimic the engine room, Navigation and communications panels on the boat itself.. I've already started researching what i can on those and the gauges that accompanied them. It'll just take me a little time as right now, i'm taking a few days break to remind myself thatthere really is a world outside of 3ds max ;) ..I am fortunate in that the engine rooms on these boats were very much like the engine rooms on U-boats. Not quite identical, but close enough most of us Lay people would never know the difference.. I also hope to modify the Gps to be more period in stye if not function as this boat required a dedicated navigator who's station was below and behind the bridge near the captains office ( there were no quarters on these boats. Once they left port, they either found a tender, or stayed awake till they got home). Just bear with me. I still have a lot to learn :} ..

paintkit uploaded..

Ok.. the paintkit has been uploaded and can be found on this page http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=114&sort=h&page=4&pp=20 . Be sure to read the description before downloading it as it un-rars to a fairly hefty size.. Also, I'll say here like i said in the little side blurb on the download page, I Highly recommend waiting for Matt and firekittens textures before painting as their baked textures will make absolute worlds of difference.. Enjoy..

:D
I take it up rivers.. trying to navigate through Rotterdam over too where i can connect with the Rhine is a major challenge ( the river system is a plate of spaghetti ).. I hate that M$ was so lax in its development of rivers and lakes and there's so much that ruins the immersion, but it also presents a major navigational challenge as well.. its a lot of fun over all..

OH.. just another aside.. This boat is not supposed to go slower than 13 knots. This one does. I figure theres no way to tow the boat through the canals like the original was, so i needed to make it go slower :)..

Pam, I looked at the paintkit, but am a bit puzzled. Is it possible to make a set available with all wire-frames/Mesh?

In IJmuiden, a harbour about 35 kilometer north from were I live there is still a huge "Schnellboot bunker" There were originally were two, but one has been hit by a Tall boy and was demolished after the war. There were similar bunkers in Hoek van Holland as well.

Cheers,

Those are amazing photos, and that building is huge.. In Cherbourgh, if i remember my details correctly there was one bunker like this one, flanked on each side by several smaller "pens".. I only saw aerial photos of the compound but i believe thats what i saw..
As far as the paintkit goes, I'm afraid it is the mesh. its been flattened for baking which is why each object is broken into a gazillion parts.. Each part is one of the sub parts on the mesh.. I'm really sorry.. I figured at most people would paint the outside of the boat, the torpedo's and the walls. I never thought anyone would wish to go deeper into detailing it.. My apologies on that.. I'm afraid that my knowledge and skill at 3D and texturing is limited. If someone knows how to map textures in a simple and easy to understand way I am more than happy to share the mesh and credit with them for doing so.. I can only hope though that it doesnt mess up Matt Wynns and Firekittens work.. If your looking for the mesh itself, its on the background of each tiff file..I wish i could help more.. Please let me know if i can..

I gots to apologize Pam. For previously viewing, and not responding. It's busy times here at the home front. Sometimes I'm lost for words or too tired.

The model looks awesome. Neat stuff! :)

No need to apologise Pam, normally I work like I would paint an actual model. But in this case I will have to try to find a different solution.

About this "Schnellboot bunker"; it had room for 20 boats. The other one in IJmuiden had room for 14 boats and an additional 4 could be repaired in an internal dock. Cherbourg indeed had similar installations as well.

Humbling words indeed Pam. Many could learn from such sentiments:salute:

The Model annologyis a ggod one.. this is like painting a plastic model while all the parts are still on the sprew.. Its not exactly optimized for ease of use.. for that, I really am sorry..
as for the bunker.. 15 meters tall ( approx 3 stories ) maybe 125 meters long?? and about maybe four boats wide ( 24 meters?? ) . I wish i had pictures of the inside.. :) :) Of course i'm guessing from what i see in the photos.. I can only imagine what lies inside.. A true plethora of george Lucas inspired images floods through my head. It makes it hard to imagine the real thing..
