I was fortunate to call this fine gentleman my patient and friend for the last ten years. He received the Navy Cross for actions on Peleliu with G Co. 2/5 Marines, 1st Marine Division in the Umurbrogol hills. He came home and became a minister after convalescing from his wounds. He carried Japanese shrapnel in his body for the rest of his days. On my 40th Birthday, he gave me a signed copy of The Devil's Anvil:The Assault on Peleliu by James H. Hallas. He was typical of his bretheren, and was the most humble and unassuming person you could meet. He will be missed.

Well darn. It's a shame to see them going so fast. Time waits for no man and he's now in a better place.

I hope his landing at the Golden Gate is less traumatic than his landing at Peleliu.
