Developed by the Bundesluftwaffe Transall jockeys during the Yugoslavian conflict to stay out of possible ground fire during approaches.
Quite impressive how they literally dive into the final from altitude.

I seem to remember they called it the Khe Sanh Approach, as it was first used in replying the outpost of the same name during the Vietnam War.

Reminds me of something I read about Space Shuttle pilots in training getting the heebie jeebies when all they saw out the windscreen at 2000ft and 350kts was desert and no sky.
