Hi All.
Just a note to all vista users who might like to save youtube movies.
I was inspire to find out by the recent post linking to Boelcke's dicta in practice:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYMZlrLVosA&feature=related
1. (Optional) Clear your internet so the file will be easy to find.
2. Go onto the Youtube page and let it load completely (ie the red bar is fully to the right).
3. Double click on the C: directory so you are in the root c: directory.
4. Click 'Organise' next to 'Views' and then 'Folder and Search Options'. Click the 'View' Tab.
Click 'Show Hidden Files and Folders' and uncheck 'Hide Protected Operating System Files'.
5. Go to the directory:
C:\Users\[MyName]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
[MyName] in my case is Admin.
6: In the bar at the top, click on the right and get the cursor to the end and type '\low' so it now looks like
C:\Users\[MyName]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\low
7. In here you will find Content.IE5. Double click on it.
8. There are numerous folders in here. Your flv will be in here usually labelled 'get_video'.
Copy (CTRL-C) this file and paste (CTRL-V) in the directory you want to save it.
9. In your new directory relabel this file with a flv extension, eg 'oswalde.flv'.
10. There are numerous flv players. I use the freeware one:
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,63307/description.html?tk=nl_lg
I make no guarantees about this program. It works on my machine and my virus scanner has never reported any problems. If you use it that is up to you and at your own risk.
Happy viewing...
