Scenery Editor

I'm looking for an editor where I can edit scenery just by dropping in hanghars etc... I know there is one in mission builder but I'm looking for a more permanent one where the buildings are there in free flight etc rather than just the mission. I don't want GSL's as there was never an attack on the airfield I am planning to edit,

Jack

Many moons ago, Lindsay "Leroy10" Watt doped out how to access and use the built-in GSL editor that exists in Mission Builder. He generously wrote a tutorial on how it works.

Click the right hand link under my signature image. Follow the "Scenery" link. Under "Other Stuff" you will see a download link to "Lindsay Watts CFS2 Mission Builder GSL Editor Tutorial". That should do it for ya.

Hi Chris, the link is not working for me, I'll have to go thru my downloads cd's,
Cheers
Yep. That's what I had to do, too, so I could make it available. Then I forgot to upload it! Whoops! ;)

BTW there is a great utility out there that I use named Advanced Disk Catalog. It really speeds up those back-up CD searches .

FYI, I uploaded the file and the link works now. Thanks for letting me know about the glitch.

I have already made it in mission builder, I just want to convert it so it is permanent,

Jack

Jack, I get what you are saying. You don't seem to get what I am saying. We are talking about creating GSL scenery, right? MB has a built in GSL editor. Lindsay Watt's tutorial tells you how to access it and use it- how to save MB scenery object layouts- to the GSL- so that they are available for destruction in FF and QC.

I don't see how I can make it any plainer than that.

Cheers,
Chris

PS: You do know what I am talking about when I say GSL right? GSL means Ground Scenery Layer. It the place where CFS2 stores all "permanent" scenery object that you see and enjoy destroying in the game.

Adding scenery objects to the GSL is outside the envelope of normal CFS2 activity. MS did not intend for us to mess with the GSL. Lots of talented people over many years unlocked the secrets and then shared them.

Have fun with the MB GSL Editor.

Hi Jack, I'd advise following Maskriders suggestion, adding mission builder layouts to the GSL is permanent, the scenery will be visible, destroyable and crashable in free flight and quick combat.
The only other option open to you is to generate procedural scenery as is used in the civilian flight sims, you can do this with programs like FSSC and Airport2.6, see the simviation design utilities pages http://www.simviation.com/fsdesign_scenery1.htm
CFS2 will load all FS2000 scenery and some fs2002 scenery so you can download scenery made by civil simmers and enjoy the eyecandy. Having said this you should be aware that the results are sometimes disappointing Cfs2 AI cannot see this sort of scenery and will fly straight through it unscathed, also some of the scenery is very heavy on frame rates and will reduce your flight to a slide show.
GSL is by far the best way to go, further more, If you can find a copy of fs2002 somewhere, it has a vast collection of scenery library objects that can be used for building modern looking GSL layouts if you are prepared to make up the dp files for the objects.
