Scenery Help...?

Duckie

SOH-CM-2024
Sorry for the length of this but I wanted to include as much info as I could to try and reduce the "back and forth".

Working on a little local aerodrome and ALMOST there...but! Using the latest version of ADE9X and trying to places a couple of stock FSX hangars from the stock OSKOSH scenery into my airport. I loaded theses little hangars into ADE and their thumbnails automatically showed up. I can select the hangar from the Library Object Manager and place it in my airport. I can edit the hangar object in the LOM, checks error free, save it and load the scenery file but these specific hanger do not show up. I have successfully loaded 3rd party objects and libraries into ADE and used them in this scenery. But these stock objects have stumped me.

Here's what, I've tried with the stock OSKOSH scenery objects.
1. pointed ADE LOM to these stock objects in the standard FSX scenery/world/scenery location
2. Copied the stock bgl and the associated dds texture files into the Addon Scenery/scenery and texture files.
3. Same as above but created an OSKOSH scenery folder and placed into the ADE Thumbs folder
4. Copied the OSKOSH bgl into the ADE bgl folder.

In each case I deleted the previous version from the LOM, loaded the new location into LOM and in each case the library manager recognized these OSKOSH objects and automatically found the thumbnails, and in each case I was able to select, place, edit, save and compile the scenery. However, in each case, these object sdid not show up in the scenery.

I'm placing these objects onto and airport flatten along with other stock and 3rd party objects which do show up.

Any help on how to accomplish this or confirmation that it can or cannot be done will be appreciated.

Thanks for you interest and patience.

Steve

Without respects to the tool in use, objects that are placed from a BGL file where a MDL has coordinates will become "geo-locked" after a particular distance. I don't recall the distance. This is just how FSX and I would imagine P3D are. Objects that reside in a library BGL, that is the BGL file only contains the MDL files and no placement coordinates, can be placed anywhere.

What you are trying to accomplish can be done with some effort. Extract the default MDL files, change the GUIDs so as to not conflict with the original files and then place the MDLs into a library BGL. From there it's place away, to your heart's content...

Thank you MM. I've extracted the mdl files I want using mdl converter x. I can open them in MDL Tweaker and the GUID is displayed. But now, how to I change the GUID or generate a new one?

If you open the MDL file with MCX it allows for the assigning/editing of the GUID and then I would save to a new name that's easy to use/remember. You can then make a library BGL with one of the tools and place away.
