Greetings! i came across this marvelous photo of a Hurricane flying along the Cliffs of Dover,i wonder if that lighthouse and many others are in the scenery file if they were there in the 1940`s,see photo.
That lighthouse is at Beachy Head, not Dover. It's about 60 miles southwest of Dover but has some great cliffs. The lighthouse was built in 1900 - 1902 so it was certainly there for the Battle of Britain! There is a lighthouse at Dover but it's on top of the cliffs. It was built in 1830 and in 1858 became the first lighthouse in the world to use an electric light.
Anorak is hanging on a peg on the back door - no need for it in this weather. Thanks for reminding me though, I left my Ian Allan Lighthouse Spotters book in the pocket.
