Scenery issue

I have noticed this when flying everywhere, (see pics), but it really shows in the Desert. I'm guessing this is a autogen problem? If so, are there any recommended changes for this? It follows my aircraft as I fly along. My scenery is GW3, and I do not have any other scenery textures installed.

Thanks.

It is a setting in the fs9.cfg as far as I know dealing with the visible distance / clarity. Exactly which one though I do not remember.

If so then it is in the terrain section

Here is mine

It might be the last three entries

[TERRAIN]
TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000
TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=0.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000
TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21
TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8
TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5
TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1
TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=10.000000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=10.00000
TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=10.00000

Thanks folks!

Dave, I tried your settings, but unfortunately I still have the same problem. I remember having this problem years ago, but I can't for the life of me remember what the fix was.

I believe the textures used are a result of the landclass. GW3 uses a different lc and that might be the problem. Try subbing the default and see if that helps.

Or the problem might be the textures. They might contrast each other too much. Try a different texture set, even the default.

I'm guessing it could be a number of things that could cause this, including hardware limitations. But if you haven't changed anything in your box, the first things I'd check are:
Settings > Display > Scenery Tab > Check the box for "Extended errain textures.
Settings > Display > Hardware Tab > Move the MIP slider full right.

Hi,

I think that is caused by the 'focus' or detail on the tile you are flying over. In the distance Denver is a blur but as you cross tile edges and get nearer more and more buildings pop up and the textures and details on the ground get clearer, but if you look at the tile edge you will see the roads click into focus and so on. If you could bear to get closer to the aircraft you might not notice the effect so much !

Andy.

If I remember the issue correctly it basically followed under the aicraft....over land or water like an overblown shadow. As I said I thought it was a cfg file change that did it.
Just to test that theory out further you could remove the cfg from it's present location temporarily and let FS build a new one.

Thanks everyone for the help. I have tried all the suggestions except changing the land class. Is land class the same as mesh?

I tried removing my cfg file and let FS9 build a new one, but I got CTD's when I started up the sim.

This COULD be the result of the texture for the grass detail. This is only displayed on the area immediately surrounding the plane (below the plane).

To TEST this theory, just reduce the terrain detail (or is it called land detail? - anyway the one next to water detail) by one or two and check if this square effect still persists!

If it does, look for the texture detail1.bmp in the scenery/world/texture folder.

First remedy, resave it with mip-maps ON using dxtbmp program because you get some strange effects with mip-maps off!

If the effect remains, just get another texture - just check avsim or flightsim for grass detail or grass texture, there are several good freeware ones around!

Cheers,
Sascha

That was it!! Thank you Sascha!! I know remember I installed a new grass detail a while back. I put back the original detail1.bmp and all is good!! Thank you very much!:icon29:

Landclass controls the ground TEXTURES you get in a specific area e.g. woods, fields, cities etc. while the mesh defines the terrain contours i.e. the topographical data.

The textures are mapped onto the mesh.

Glad to help! I just rembered that there is a nice detail texture in Pablo Diaz's High Definition pack.

Bugga...while browsing through the texture folder looking for the runway texture info to answer another post I came across the Detail1.bmp and that clicked my old grey matter in to find this post only to find you guys already solved the mystery :)

But I made a note in my personal tips and tricks section for this...so it's not all wasted.

Cheers
Stefan
