screen flash with DHC-7

Milton's DHC-7 is an outstanding addition to FSX and is a delight to fly. I'm having only a couple of problems with it, and it's got to be something I'm doing on my machine, not the aircraft.

First - I get a bright white flash on the entire screen when flying using the 2D panel, and changing the view from the overhead panel back to the main panel, or going from an external view back to the main panel. At the same time, the view straight ahead from the 2D panel becomes solid black, although other views from inside out remain normal.

Second - I have noted at times my clouds become blocky, the lights become covered with black boxes when in external view, and I "lose" the spinning props on the aircraft. Reloading the aircraft doesn't help.

I have tried changing settings in the Radeon Catalyst Control Center but am not sure they're helping.

SS101 - I am not the expert here on this stuff but I am pretty sure there are a number of possible causes. First it is not the model but to be sure you should get the latest version which has been redone by Milton and is a 'native FSX'. Second the flashes are graphics as are the blocky effect, generally caused by corrupted effects or textures files, the first two culprits for this are having DX10 checked in your FSX settings and the other is older texture files that are incompatible with FSX (propellor animation is a notorious example). Another issues is the automation.dll which resides in the main FSX directory - do you have the laterst version and you will have do a www search to see what is current. This files handles window change behaviour. I no longer use 2D panels and hence have been able to delete this file from my system with no issues with the way FSX appears or runs as a result, you could try doing that as well.

Like all things FSX the only thing I have learnt that nothing works out of the box and that a lot of fiddling and testing is required to get stable performance and graphics with FSX and a lot depends on your particular system, dealing with that issue requires a whole blog site on its own.
