Hi Deathwind, great idea! But if possible I (but who am I?) would prefer black & white screens. In my idea they fit the era better.
Thanks for all your good works,
hertzie.
Hi Hertzie — great idea, and exactly the kind of input I was hoping for! Black and white definitely fits the era better, and I’ll keep that in mind. Might even do both versions, since converting color to B&W is easy — even I could do it. Or maybe not... I'm kinda dumb sometimes. Hehehe.
Here’s my take on it: I haven’t come across any good screen replacements for the IJN, though there
are some for the USN. The real issue is finding the right kind of historical photos that fit the storyboard. There are plenty of old pictures of the Japanese Navy online, but getting the
right scene is the challenge.
I’ll be honest — I’m not a big fan of the comic book style, but I do like the original screens. As for black and white, yeah, photos back in WWII were B&W, and that makes total sense for museum displays or history lessons. But we’re playing a
game here — in color. The Japanese didn’t see the war in black and white, just the cameras did. I’m not trying to be a war journalist — I’m trying to be a
pilot. To me, seeing it in color feels more authentic, like what my eyes
would have seen in the cockpit.
That’s where AI tools come in — my goal is to take those comic-style images and push them toward realism. It won’t be perfect, and I know some folks will be picky, but hey — they can always tweak things or make their own if they want. My style is about making you feel like you’re
in the war, not just watching old footage of it on YouTube.
But I’m also here to make people happy. So if someone wants Dutch wooden-shoe-wearing bikini cloggers in black and white — who knows, I might even give it a go.
