SDK

I want to install SDK....I know it's on disk 1 of win 7 but I cannot find it. Can anyone direct me to it?

Thanks

Dick

The SDK installer is on disk #1 of the FSX Deluxe DVDs. You will probably need Windows Explorer to navigate the DVD's folder layout. The SDKs need to match your FSX installation level, so if you have SP2 or Acceleration installed for FSX that will mean taking a circular route to get to that point.

It's a bit of a pain, but this link will hopefully(?) make the task a little easier;

The FSX SDK is 'very' difficult to activate. You have to go in and rewrite some files to get them to locate all the components such as your sim, SDK location, etc. The guys at www.fsdeveloper.com should be able to help you get it all wired up and running.

then you obviosly installed it the hard way .. all i had to do was run the install on the disks .. copy the entire sdk to another location, then create a "send to" shortcut to compile with ... simples! :)

Be aware that if the FSX Tools menu option is not displaying in FSX, you must edit dll.xml manually. This is what I had to do when I installed the SDK on my Windows XP based system.

I mmann..

You are right, it's not showing up in the FSX tools menu.

P.S. I did edit dll.xml manually.

This happened with me also.

I still cant get the FSTools to show up in FSX.

In Gmax, (if you are running the Gmax system), go to MaxScript (top toolbar) select Run Script, go to FSTools, and select. You usually have to do this 3 times in a row to get the FSTools to show up on the top toolbar.

Every now and then, it will appear there as it should, but not always.

The hand edited DLL.XML was the one I was thinking of. I had it all written, spent a week trying to get it to work. Never got it working.. Tried many times.... But this is for the 'in FSX' tools, like the cool Special Effects design engine. Maybe it hates Apple computers. :d

And your FSX installation is where?

I guess I've been lucky (or wise?) by not utilizing the Program Files folder(s) of XP64. But that will soon change as I get my primary system "fixed" and install Win7 64. Then I'll get to play with all the UAC stuff and other things MS has created to protect me from myself...

But I'm thinking the XML changes aren't being implemented because of a "permissions" problem?

In Gmax...

Bill, you are conflating two completely seperate things. The "Tools" being referred to in this instance are the entries in FSX, not the ones in the GMax/Max toolbar!

O.K. guy's, here is what I have....when i go into FSX default flight and bring up the MENU I have Tools>object placement tool...am I go to go?

Dick

The fact that you have a tools menu with something in it is a good sign. Could you post what your dll.xml file looks like?

when i go into FSX default flight and bring up the MENU I have Tools>object placement tool and also have Traffic tools and effects tools.

I'd say that you are good to go at this point.
Now comes the fun of figuring out how to use all of those new tools! :icon_lol:

I'd say you're good to tinker!

The Effects Toolbox? Like getting a root canal done at the dentist's office, almost...

The Traffic Toolbox? OK, if you're into that type of thing. I just want to see some AI flying about.

The Object Placement Tool? Yuk, much better alternative is Instant Scenery 2 or if you're opposed to paying the quirky, but effective and old and abandoned Whisplacer by Lamont Clark.

But with the SDKs showing up you can use some of the different dev. tools, which can be a good (or bad?) thing.

Congrats!

Thanks for the help guy's...much appreciated.

I just want to start simple. I want to create my little cabin up in Alaska and go from there, maybe redo Skydive Lebanon field up the road from my house. Maybe redo Logan Int'l.
