Searching for an Aircraft Manual

Recently I decided to have another go at the Folland Gnat. Six Years ago I was apparently on the cusp of releasing an extensive update for the Gnat and then for some reason I stopped and never finished it (found the original thread from that time). Anyway. I am at a point where I am replacing the fuzzy avionics art that was in it with crisp replacements and there are some gauges that I cannot find (The Trim System for one) and I was hoping that "Avialogs" would surely have plenty on the Gnat. . .not a single page, lol.

I've tried looking through images using every search wording I can think of. No one takes close-up photos of cockpits, they seem to prefer what I call "Artsy Fartsy" glamour shots. . .of no use at all unless you want to see what a cockpit looks like from 20' away, lol. So does anyone know of any other sites like Avialogs, that caters to manuals and doesn't cost an arm and a leg to sift through the pages? Any help would be appreciated.

avialogs.com has several manuals for the Gnat. You can either view the manuals for free or pay a small subscription fee to download pdf.

Henry I went through the site a bit ago (I rely on it quite a bit when drawing avionics and gauges) "Folland" wasn't listed.

Found it Henry, but unfortunately while I did find descriptions of a few things I was curious about, none of the manuals had good illustrations of any of the cockpit components like I was able to find when working on the AMX. So the search continues. Thanks!

I may be able to help.

This is a new addition in our museum, waiting on a team to assemble it.

While the cockpit canopy is closed until we're allowed to open it , I may be able to get suitable close up pics of the interior.

Pete.

Pete that would be awesome (if they will allow it). Being familiar with texturing and what would be ideal when thinking about photos and their use in texturing a VC, you would be more apt to get the "top down" close in shots of the avionics panels (left and right) and then any close-ups of the main panel. The problem always seems to be that placards and smaller decals are unreadable and those little things make the overall feeling much more realistic.

I have placed some avionics that were made for other airplanes and they suffice since nothing on the side consoles is functional anyway, but having the exact items in their correct places would really finish it off nicely.

What great news, Ed!

I'm working my way through closely simulating RAF/RN fast jet training, and I have a bit of a hole after the Jet Provost. I don't own the JF Hawk, so a Folland Gnat would be lovely for 60s/70s training.

What model are you enhancing? I vaguely recall you at one point were working on the Simshed model. I recall enjoying that way back in FS9. Hoping your project works in P3DV4, but understand if that's outside your scope.

You probably have seen these - but here's some decent shots of the aircraft, including the cockpit:

Really looking forward to this. Will also see what other references I can find.

cheers,

The one I'm piddling with is the T .Mk1 (XR977-Red Arrow). The readme indicated it was originally done by Brian Franklin, some updates (FDE) by Bob Chicilo, and finally by A.F.Scrub in 2013. I have completely redone the VC and one of our members is looking at it to see if the many "holes" can be corrected. That's the real drawback right now. I also did a simple hi-res (layered) PK for it.

Falcon,
I have an Aircrew Manual for the GNAT T Mk1 that includes pictures of the cockpit with labels of all the instruments. If you think that would be helpful to you, PM your email address to me and I'll send you enlarged screen shots of those pages. They include the forward cockpit and the right and left consoles.

Mal, that sounds like what I found on Avialog. They did have a cockpit layout for the main panel and both consoles. What I was trying to find were actually straight on images of the various avionics components.

Unfortunately, I had a heart problem early this morning that has landed me in the Hospital. Won’t be home til tomorrow as they want to run some tests. Thanks for the assist on the search for images though.

Ed, try asking over on WW2Aircraft.net. Some of the guys there can come up with some OTW stuff.

As I said previously, until we are allowed to open the canopy, these are the best I can do at present.

Due to the stuff on the front seat I'm unable to get better pics.

Also the current lighting wasn't the best.

Hope this will help a bit until such time that I can get into the cockpits.

Pete.
