See AI aircraft landing

Sure, but don't go too close or the AI will get the jitters and break off their landing attempt - or worse, crash...
I yet have to see the opposite of a formation take-off. But perhaps the ODB people have solved that too (see the thread on the apparently upcoming WW2 version of WOFF)

i Renatus,

Yes it is. :) You need to make a mission where the player aircraft is a driveable vehicle on the ground at an airfield but away from the runway. Then set up a flight of aircraft to land there. It will require some hand editing to move the position of the player. I've done this and it works mostly, they often crash depending on the airfield, pick a big one with not many objects around it!

Renatus - I've attached that mission here in case anyone else wants to have a go.

It's for stock CFS3.

Start the mission, DO NOT start your engine :0) just sit and watch the aircraft.

There's a flight of 6 Mosquitos which will fly over and out into the distance. Some other friendly aircraft may spawn and circle the airfield.

The Mosquitos will then turn and land. This takes about 5 or 6 minutes so get a cup of coffee and watch the show!

In my install I have the 'Player/Target' command set up (it's blank by default) to ctrl & alt. This way I can get a close up view of each aircraft as they land. Sometimes they crash as they try and avoid the previous aircraft that has landed. Other times they land ok.
The airfield chosen also affects ai behaviour, I tried Debden before North Weald and the ai crashed short of the runway every time.

Let me know how you get on. :)

@Clive, check the object folder and the relevant runway.xml file therein (as specified in the airbase facility file). You can alter the distance at which the ai aircraft turn to make their final approach. Sometimes the distance is too short; I would think anything under 7000 metres, and the ai do funny things. They need a bit of time to sort themselves out (those boys are a bit dense :dizzy:). In a campaign mission I can have landed and gone for the first pint before the AI wingmen show up to land ...:ernaehrung004:

@ Frosty, a number of Charlie's addons include takeoff spawns so that AI aircraft spawn in front of you on the runway before you take off. IIRC the spawns are linked to specified airbase facilities so that it does not happen everywhere. It can get very crowded on the runway depending upon where the AI wingmen takeoff positions on the apron are specified in the runway object xml...

Thanks David, I'll try that. North Weald is set at 3500 so that could well be the issue. :wavey:
