Seeing double (cockpits!)

A long time ago I saw a "fix" for the situation where after loading a new aircraft, it displays with the 2-D panel of the previous selection.

  • I've reloaded and restarted FS9 to no avail.
  • I did an SOH search w/ keywords double, dual, ghost without finding the answer.

BTW, this problem started two days ago; perhaps something I've installed?

Anyhow, please tell me HOW to FIX it, please, please!!

I've seen that before but in my situation it fixed itself after a restart of my system, wish I could help more.

Thanks, Chris.

It's driving me batty. I'm trying to work my way thru replies to my other thread re Kuhnt's BN-2 Islanders, but I can't get the panels to display because I can't get rid of the default Cessna panel.

Our European experts will soon come on-line and hopefully someone will have the solution!

Screenshots would help understanding of exactly what you see.

I cannot illustrate the problem* w/ a screenie (I just tried), but here is an explanation:

  • I select a flight which starts with a DC-3
  • I then load a BN-2
  • The 2-D that displays is the DC-3 panel
  • The VC that displays is the BN's
* I now realize the thread title may be misleading, specifically the word "double". In the 2-D view I see only ONE PANEL, as explained above. However, in some cases two different VCs display.

Sounds like something is hanging up in either the PC's memory or the graphic card's memory. Does this problem happen after a reboot of the computer? How long has it been since you last cleaned the dust and cobwebs out of your computer...could be a heat issue.

No dust here: sparkling clean. I've shutdown/started/rebooted probably 10 times since this problem started; did it again just now before replying.

Create a flight > select airport > select aircraft (BN-2A) > fly now.... and there's my Islander with default Cessna sound and panel!

Check the panel and sound folders. I'm betting there's an alias to a file that doesn't exist on your installation. When that happens, the Sim reverts back to the plane that's used in your default flight. As I remember, that whole Islander/Trislander series relies heavily on aliasing for panels and sounds.

If you didn't get yours from the source, here's a link you may find helpful:

On a side note, the other issue with aliasing is what I call "Double Aliasing." For example, the default 747 uses an alias to the default 737's sounds. So if you try to alias something else to the default 747's sound folder, all you get is silence.

BRILLIANT, Tom! I had placed the BN-2 panel, the BN2-Sound and the BN2-Sound-3B folders in the individual aircraft folders; in those circumstances, the aliases drew blanks. [They should have been in the FS9\Aircraft folder.] Made the change and life was sweet once again.

Thanks to all who responded. :salute:
