Server Download Limit exceeded

Since yesterday (about 24h) the FlightSim.com's file server has been giving this error message:

DownloadLimit.jpg

Has anyone of you encountered the same?

Yes I have been getting this as well, in two cases pressing ctrl+F5 got it to download. But its not working every time.

I have been getting that message for a couple of weeks now and just feel it is a way to get you to spend $30 for membership.

I would say it is legitimate. A websites bandwidth allotment is a monthly allotment. The message is probably a safe guard to prevent them from going over their limit. If they bust their bandwidth allowance it would mean $$$ bucks.

If my guess is right then you will be able to download again after the first of the month when the new billing cycle starts. That is assuming it starts on the first.

The problem is just not with Flightsim, but also with FSPilotShop.

FSPilotShop has some great sales going on, and I eyeing another Nemeth Helo but due to the long download time I encountered yesterday I'm hesitant to try it again.

I notified them of the excessive download time thought their support system, and this was their response.

Thank you for contacting FSPilotshop.com.

Let me know if you have issues with the file once downloaded. The traffic the past few days has been IMMENSE and slow downloads have been common. This will subside in time. If you run out of downloads or continue to have trouble, let us know and we'll do what we can to assist.

So the question is how long with their products be on sale and will the sale continue after things return to normal??

Hi,
Today is worse. Impossible to download anything from Western Europe. What about from US?
Regards,
JMC

The files concerned should have an access restriction placed on them, so they can only be downloaded on specified days/times.
They're losing money with the current system.

I think Flightsim's problems are legit... whatever they are experiencing is a real issue for them. I always thought that Nels ran a tight ship and if they are in need of some donations in the form of memberships, it might just save the site. Would be a shame to loose it. Just me 2 bits.

On the bad side, I am leery of slower downloads on a very busy server, as the possibility of corrupted files showing up is somewhat likely. It's happened to me a few times. Let Flightsim resolve this issue and get things back on track... Then if you see something over at the Pilot Shop you can't live without... go get it.

I had an issue with my email page, authorized entry or similar error message , I phoned the sever and i was told many people across New Zealand had phoned with same problem and it was a Firefox update that has caused a glitch , this also happened with another member trying to access the Flightsim.store , maybe this is were the problem lies.

Unlikely. I'm using IE11 and there's still no accessing files from flightsim, as of the date /time of this post.

I just went over to Flightsim, I was able to navigate through all of the freeware pages for FSX, FS9 including all the new files and older ones. I went into the Pilot Shop, logged on and was able to browse and select different payware without a hitch. I didn't purchase anything so maybe the problem lies with specific download servers. I downloaded several paints for the recently released TDS Boeing 737 and the Loach 737 Experience models from the freeware FS9 skins section without a hitch. I do not have the paid membership as I don't go into the forums there.

I did all of this using Win7 Home Premium, IE11, on a punkie HP 8710 PC. Time 0809 hours MDT, 12/4.

I think that Nels should have a close look at stopping such large files being uploaded. The file causing all the trouble is an X-Plane scenery file and therefore I feel it should be hosted on anX-Plane dedicated server. JMHO.

Admittedly, I do have the $30 membership, so I don't know if that perhaps is the reason that I have had no problems moving around the site, nor downloading any of the free stuff. Haven't bought anything from the FSPilotshop in a few weeks, but have looked around with no problems. I accessed my account page, and tried a download of one of my purchases, with no problems.

They do have a filesize limit on scenery uploads (100MB I think from memory). Special cases can apply for a larger limit. 55GB is quite a bit over that limit though.

The Author of the Scenery in question posted links to his website and torrent sites for folks to download the Package there; Nels @ FlightSim surmises that people felt more comfortable downloading from an established site as opposed to a torrent.

They got jammed up because of mega downloads; no big deal. It sounds like they're getting back to normal.
