Sexy Jet

Not usually into old jet airliners, but this one popped up on AVSIM recently.
They were pretty fast if I recall.
Noisy and smoky, too.

Doesn't it look The Business?
Philip Foglar did a most brilliant paint on it, I thought.

Yep, when you have to get you and a hundred or so of your best friends somewhere. nothing lke a tubeliner...:ernae::ernae:

Yep, I have to say she is a beauty. No VC (a definite minus nowadays), but the views are pretty cool so I overlooked the lack of a VC for now. The installation is kinda long-winded since you have about 5 different downloads to get everything you need (base pack, panel, texture, sounds, etc) and since each one of those comes with a readme, you have to separate the readme's you need to read and those that you don't since some of the info for one readme is ammended by another, lol.
I finally said the "heck with this" and figured out what I needed and installed it, the stuff I didn't I tossed and went on with it. I trimmed the texture names way down since they were a paragraph long and unnecessary, made the same changes in the cfg file, dropped it into the aircraft directory and went flying. A terrififc aircraft to look at and fly, well worth the time it takes to sort everything out.

Yes it took a little time to assemble, but done at leisure it all seemed very worthwhile.
No VC in tubes does not worry me generally as the flying tends to be done off the gauges.
In fact trying to click on say, climb rate, as you pan around the cockpit, is too hard for me.

Flight Simulator...where you can get straight out of your 1902 single-seat de Mortier Pratt, into the captain's chair of a '70's jetliner, and finish the trip in a Mach 3 spy plane...

falcon409,
How do you change the texture names and still have them readable by the sim? I'd like to do that with several planes I have where the texture names are very long or in French or German.

Hey Tarps,
Pretty straight forward really, I change the texture folder name to what I want, then go into the aircraft config file, find the corresponding info for that texture and replace it with the new name.
That's it.

Eric Cantu / Vistaliners has graciously allowed the Historic Jetliners Group ( HJG ) to host his B727-100 & 200 series aircraft.

In conjunction with the 727 panel by Richard Probst these would have to be the finest freeware 727's available.

Check out their site for a stack of highly detailed repaints .....

I have the Flight1/Dreamfleet B727 but I still come back to these.

Pete.

:costumes:

Like any properly done "some assembly required" project, there should always be a few extra parts lying around afterwards.

falcon409,
Thanks for your reply, I understand now. It was the texture folder that had the long name, not the texture bmp files. I'm a little slow sometimes. Anyway I d/l'ed that HJG 727, nice plane. The older jetliners are the ones I like.

Another of the tests (there are many!) of model quality: does it grow on you?
This one certainly does.
And one of the benefits of carting a hundred of your closest friends in the back, is the volume of ragged applause as you grease her in...

(Edit: perhaps the SOH FAQ can be updated with how to embed youtube? I can never remember.)
