I would like to encourage a movement of sharing source files among freeware developers.

Some excellent freeware developers have done aircraft models using FSD or gmax that are either incomplete or without VCs.

If these individuals hsre their source files online, other developers can "carry the baton" so to speak.

Obviously credit will be given to all people involved in the project and the projects will be complete freeware in the fullest sense.

I see that there are many aircraft such as the vickers Viking, Viscount, and VC-10 and many american and russian planes that are very well developed, yet some users will prefer to see VCs in them.

In the event that source files are openly shared, new developers can have a tremendous head start in further enhancing the projects.

I know that simviation, daviator, and other sites do have many donated source files, and I would like all developers to consider donating their freeware source files for the benefit of the FS community.

My 2 cents.

I second the motion.

My Do-328, once I deem it suitable for public use, will be open source.

I seem to recall a similar thread like this having presented itself a while ago in the Aircraft Design and Animation forum. One of the members started collecting various source files, with their respective authors permission, and backing them up on an external hard drive.

I believe some of the authors gave permission for their source files to be passed on to other developers with the provisio that they either remain freeware or that the other developer contact them for permission first.

At any rate, it's something to look into.

I would be willing to share any and all of my (Non Abacus) source files and make them available to any FREEWARE developer who wants to use them. Just shoot me a PM

Do I need to have one?

CV-880; nice livery; shot at Stapleton; suitable as a signature pic.

Just wondering. I had both a family member who flew for them, and a friend who flew that airplane. Just wondering if you had a connection. I see you don't. Thanks!

Don
