After my recent bout with a punk that crashed my rig (see Notice from the Free Flight Site in this forum)
I realized I had not backed up some of my purchased software. Within hours both Flight1 and Adam at Abacus
supplied me with redownload links to get me back up and running.

I recommend that everyone keep a copy of your license keys somewhere safe or the process may not be as fast
as mine.

Good products and great customer service.

Thanks to them,

Dave

good advice, Dave.

personally, i use a flash drive for daily backup
(sometimes, more often) of my ad2k work.
i learned my lesson back on the 196 project.
there's nothing like loosing days,
or even weeks, worth of work.

matter of fact, i have a couple of them.
they're a good place to keep stuff
i don't want to loose, just in case.
and they're, relatively cheap, too.

Question Milo,
I am still backing up to CD's, can be a bit of a pain at times.

Are flash drives easy enough to use for a no brain red neck like myself ?

Input appreciated,

Dave

first and foremost, let me make it clear.
i am no wizard or guru.
i'm just an old man sitting in a dark basement.

when i want to backup,
i plug in a flash drive,
(there is a usb port on the front of my machine, so access is easy)
it auto plays, i cancel and open it.
i create a new folder, name it the days date and open it.
then i copy/paste the files i want to save,
close the folder and click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the task bar.
(this is an xp thing, don't know about newer systems)
when it says it's safe to remove,
i unplug the flash drive and set it on the shelf next to the port.
done deal until the next time.
just make sure to unplug it when not in use.

what i like about the flash, instead of disks,
is the proceedure is dirt simple,
i'm not toasting endless disks
that i would need to handle and store,
and down the road, say, in a few months,
if i decide i don't need the old files,
i can delete them and reuse the freed space.

i got a new flash for Christmas.
don't know how much it cost the giver,
but it has a 15 gig capacity.
that's plenty to last me a while.

hope that answered your question
