Shuttle Launch From Across The State

FAC257

SOH-CM-2025
Just snapped this pic of the Shuttle launch this evening from the opposite side of the State. The distance is about 150 miles from the launch pad.

If you look closely you can see the bright spec at the top is the Shuttle on Main Engines. The two SRBs falling away are the two fainter white specs just below the Shuttle.

They are always spectacular when they go at dawn or dusk.

We had an excellent view from Tampa....

The setting sun highlighted the boosters falling away perfectly. First time we've really been able to see that from here.

I actually saw one night launch all the way up in Chester, VA. From my viewpoint, the shuttle moved from West to East at a slight upward angle. It wasn't visible for long, about 15 seconds, but it was visible that one time. All I can say is that it moves really fast!

Thank you very much for posting these beautiful and awe-inspiring pictures.

Back in '88 I was working my way through Naval Nuclear Power School at NTC Orlando, and I got to see the shuttle go up while standing out in 'the circle' between the 2 school buildings. It was very impressive even from a distance of 50 miles away. The really cool part was after it went out of sight everyone that had watched it broke out in applause!
