Shuttleworth 2011

i was planning on going to see one of their shows this year, but not gonna be able to :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby: really enjoyed the one i went to last year, such a nice little place with a very friendly atmosphere, non of that comercialised/impersonalised feel you get at the bigger shows!
 
Warm Summer evenings are the best at Old Warden. When there's not much wind they usually get out one or more of their REALLY old planes and demo them! Won't be in the UK either this year...... *sniff*

Yeah, it is a really great atmosphere and plenty of room to breathe. You're really close to the aircraft and the action too - I was sat right behind those Yaks for my picnic!
 
Last year they were putting the old WW1 crates back in the hangar, and we could just walk in the middle of them, and check out the cockpits. All we got was a friendly smile from the technicians, instead of being sent off.
Cool guys, cool place.

Old Warden is home to the world's oldest airworthy aircraft, a Bleriot XI ( powered by the world's oldest airworthy aero engine ), and the oldest airworthy British-built aircraft, a Blackburn type D. The Bleriot was built in 1909, the Blackburn in 1912 .

A more curious record I was told about is that Old Warden is home to an aircraft which has been based there longer than any other aircraft at any other airfield worldwide..if that makes sense. Not sure which aircraft it is, but the source of the information was very reliable.

I consider myself fortunate in having both this wonderful museum and Duxford within very easy reach.
