At Oshkosh this year, Sikorsky had it's all electric helicopter demonstrator on display...

Does is fly outdoors? Do the batteries burst into flames when you overcharge them? :ichile:

(Sorry - that's my experience with electric helicopters, but they were a lot smaller...) :icon_lol:

LOLOLOL....

eeeks... ski-bibbles...

In the Car business, we would give that thing an all new pod design, some sleek sleek lines, a neat new instrument panel, and make it the coolest thing on the market and then launch it. Perhaps it would cost too much...

It was never designed to be a future product for Sikorsky.
The demonstrator was built to show that an all electric helicopter could currently be done with 'off the shelf' technology and available parts.
With advances in battery research in the coming years, it could result in an eventual rotorcraft design that is much quieter, requires less maintenance, and reduces engine failure related crashes.
I'm actually sorry some of you here can't see the possibilities presented by this demonstrator.
Your loss. :salute:

I think its great they are pursuing the technology - sorry my comments (meant in jest) appear to snub your posting of the information. Even more sorry that this apology apparently is needed.

And (coming offensive comment, also in jest) no wonder Bill likes Apple so much...

Brian
