Has anyone purchased any of SimFlight3Ds stuff. I have been looking at their Cessna 140....and really like the way it looks. At $23 for a bundle that includes the 1947 C140 and the 1958 C172, I might have to bite on it...but would like some input on the quality of the planes and how well they perform.

That looks like a sweet deal.

I remember looking at the 140 when it came out, but at the time the price seemed a little steep for one model. Now that it's two for the price of one it looks a lot better.

I hope someone weighs in and tells us we should buy them.

The renditions look very nice but I have the same reservation with these guys I have with Carenado -- great models, but virtually no repaints available in the community - for these specific models.

I bought both the Cessna 206 and Mooney from Carenado and they are a delight plus a HUGE number of repaints are available. These wee private birds cry for scads of unique liveries - IMHO

Note: All of the above comments are based on an old retiree "guarding" his coins very carefully and making vendors meet rigorous requirements before shelling out any of my hoard.:cowboy:

If it's the AC your'e really after, don't forget the superb offering from our friends across the pond in France, the C-150L from "Guidée François-Denis et Franckart Yves" (I had to copy and paste those names off the readme). Reflecting windscreen, actually sitting behind the yoke, a little vibration in VC mode, nice textures too.

I have the 150L...spectacular work. I was more interested in the 140. I have Brian Gladden's 140 and fly the dickens out of it (especially the float equipped version)....one of my top 5 favorite sim aircraft. At one point, I had the 140 modified to represent a 120 with the optional D windows behind the cockpit since they are modeled into the plane. The 120 had full cloth wings and no flaps. Also had paint kits done up for the 120 and 140....but I lost the whole shebang in a HD failure. Need to redo the work I suppose.

So far I don't see any posts from anyone who actually ownes either of these.

Is that a bad sign?

I also noticed a lack of repaints at Avsim and FlightSim (I found two for the 140 at FltSm, nada for the 172).

I downloaded on the other paint packs for the SimFlight3D Cessna 140....and it became quite clear why there are next to no paints done for this bird. They used a lot of photos for texturing the plane...including the wings, fuselage, tail parts. Looks great...until someone wants to make their own repaints...and those photo-real texture bits just aren't good for developing a paint kit from. Also, it looked like most of the plane was mirrored...which kills most paint schemes.

So....it looks like my interest in these planes is now dead....and Brian Gladden's C-140 will remain in my hangar for quite some time. I will just redevelop the paint kit for it, re-mod it into the Cessna 120...and be quite happy to fly these nice freeware planes into the next decade or more.
