Since a lot of older stuff has been resurfacing lately...

While not a huge turbo prop fan, there are a few that I do like...and the P-166 gets a spot in my hangar if for no other reason than it is a neat looking aircraft. The fact that it is highly versatile adds to the appeal of the plane. This turbo prop will join the C-130, Turbo Mentor and a small assortment of Pilatus planes.

Hey Obio,

Most of the models are regular piston jobs. The DL and one other or two are turbines. A, B, and C and I think M are piston engines.

Only the latest version of the 166 is turbine. The others are nice old recip grinders. BTW, the cabin on the 166 is huge - about twice the apparent volume of an AC680

I just wish there was a decent model of the P.135 amphib

I did not know that the early models were piston powered.....learn something new every day.

I have most of the P-166s installed. I have found two things that I do not like...but they may well just be my personal preferences at work.

1) The view from the VC is bit low...so I raised the viewpoint to suit my own taste....well, just on the A model at this point. I changed the eye point setting from X, X, 2.15 to X, X, 2.5. This gives me the kind of view over the VC panel I like.

2) The DL3 or what ever it is, the one that is aliased to the Kingair 350. I HATE, DESPISE, DETEST, CAN NOT TOLERATE the sound of the Kingair 350. Don't even use that sound on the Kingair 350. I have a single turbo prop pack from Alpha Sim, not sure which freeware plane it came with (possibly the Turbo Mentor). It is for CFS2, FS2002 and FS2004. I tweaked the sound config to make a nice twin engine turbo prop package. I will have to dig around and see which package the sounds came with, get permission from Phil or one of the other Alpha Sim members to upload the package to the library. Sounds much much nicer than that shop vac sounding stock Kingair 350 package.

Oh, another tip: Use DXTbmp to open and resave the texture files of each package without Mip Mapping. Really clears up the fuzzies on the externals of these planes.

The single turbo prop sound pack did come with the Turbo Mentor, which is in the download library here under AlphaOldies (by author). If you have that plane, then you have the sound pack. I will attach the revised sound config file to create a twin engine application for use with the Piaggio....

Thanks Obio,

I think one of the reason I am enjoying these so much is becasue they are so frame rate friendly and fly really smoothly on my PC. If you get them, don't forget to get the updated cfgs and air files from the same site above.

Hey OBIO,
The tweaked Mentor Sound set may be your best work to date:ernae:

I had a good 350 sound set installed -- about 40Mb -- but yours blows it away.

Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.:applause:

Hi,

The single turbo prop sound pack did come with the Turbo Mentor, which

Modified sounds are great on this plane I discovered today :)
I have just a small prob with this Piaggio P-166 (correction patch installed)
The plane fly great but the behaviour on landing is weird (on my side at least)
Plane seem's want not go on ground (floating some meters over) at 40 knots (full flaps) and I'm able at this speed to up the nose .. and still floating a lot.
Flaring is pratically impossible (and this plane approach with a noze down attitude .. so you must flare :) )
Anyone with the problem ?
