Skydive thread on Yahoo homepage

I get the Yahoo homepage every time I call up my personal email. This morning there was a most interesting video of a woman who had just turned 80 and for a birthday present to herself (with some inducement from some other girls) decided she wanted to tandem skydive. Video shows her meeting her "host," then getting saddled up with her gear along with three other women, presumably family/friends, and heading out to the aircraft (looks like a QueenAir, with no door). They get up to altitude and she decides she doesn't want to after all. After some prompting she gets up and gets hooked up to her host, and they're out the door. The problems begin when very shortly after the exit they begin spinning rapidly. You can see the drogue chute come out to stabilize them, which seems to help some. The really hairy part is she appears to begin slipping out of her host's harness, the wind is blowing all her upper clothing up around her arms - I wouldn't say you're very secure if that's happening. I'm no skydiver but it appeared to me he may have deployed the main chute rather high, to slow things down and give him time to examine her problem and take corrective action without quite so much "rush." They finally make it to the ground. It's worth a watch for thrills but I doubt this will make many folks want to do a tandem jump.

how about a link, or some info specific enough to allow us to look for it? i went to yahoo us and yahoo canada and couldn't find it. :kilroy:

You pretty much got what I saw earlier this morning - the original tape was around 10 minutes long. What we've got doesn't show the hesitation she was expressing in the airplane - although it's fairly apparent she really DOES NOT want to go out that door, even in this rendition of the tape. This gets the general situation across, though. I checked the other versions that came up and they're all pretty short. I agree with the guess expressed above there's something interesting, legally speaking, coming down the pike on this one.:pop4:

you guys seemed to find it no problem. well, thanks. she lived, right? she didn't fall all the way out?
man, she sure ain't gonna forget this birthday is she? i bet next year it's a sara lee cake and a hallmark card.
