FSX Acceleration Skyraider Bomb Mission - Location Haiphong. Fly from base to enemy location. Use your compass to cycle enemy Stryker locations and to re-ammo. Destroy all five Strykers and return to base safely. Use your shift-d to drop your bombs. FSX Acceleration required. FSX default terrain mesh required due to off the beaten path, Skyraider (A-1J_SKYRAIDER.ZIP), Ov1_PAK (OV-1_PAK.ZIP), OV-10A_FSX (OV10AFSX.ZIP) by Tim Conrad required. By Ed Olander.[/SIZE]

Yeah I noticed this too at flightsim.com, thought I'd let someone see what its like first before I try it!:salute:

Hi,

Great Shots !!

I think I see one Stryker, if you have a 3rd party mesh it may elevate the terrain in some areas where the others are, if so this will make it difficult to land the bombs on them - the Area Rec around the Strykers is only a 20x20, this where you need to drop the bomb in order to score the kill.

Where you able to see the Airacraft takeoff at the runway ??

Also what mesh do you use ??

Thx & Cheers !!

This is the second one by Ed that I've tried without any success. The first one was doomed from the start because I use addon mesh, so the mission started with me rolling down a hill and crashing, lol.

With this one, the mission starts ok, with the briefing, etc, but once the aircraft loads , from there on, it's just a freeflight, something is keeping it from maintaining the mission. There are no other aircraft, no compass, no radio transmissions or narration. If I hit the esc key, it just asks if I want to end the flight, not end the mission.

Hi Ed,

I can't help ya on the Mesh, as just the default terrain was used. 3rd party meshes may elevate certain areas and may cause some of the viewable objects to disappear.

I did a test and removed the OV-1B, that needs to be there for the Mohawk version that was used and same thing happened to me, Mission Started and nothing showed up, I put it back and all was well, so I think your missing one of the Aircraft directories.

You need OV-1B for Mohawk to show
OV-10A_FSX - Bronco to show
and of course our favorite the A-1J

------------------

Let me know what terrain mesh you use, I'm looking into purchasing one, but cannot decide ?

Thx & Cheers -

Ok, it was the Mohawk. . .I had the "C" model only. Installed the "B" model and the mission went off without any more probs. Completed the mission with 10 bombs left. . .very cool little mission. Lookin' forward to the next one. These would be great combined with the "Vietnam War Project" that's being produced.:salute:

One small thing. . .I like the radio transmissions. . .but they're so garbled that without the text to look at, it would be impossible to know what the tower is saying.

Hi Ed,

Excellent, I'm glad it worked for you !
Yes my radio chatter is bad - Too much :icon29: + Fun !! LOL !!
Wow, you got them all in one pass with 10 bombs left, I still have yet to do that, Stryker 5 is moving and I can't hit him in the first pass.....I have to get a refill and do a 20 bomb drop on em - LOL !!

Is good fun when it works -

Many Cheers !!

Not to worry, I like the radio chatter, actually adding a bit more over the strike areas would be cool too, as though there was a FAC calling in the strikes. . .I like it, just needs a bit more clarity. Great job. . .lookin forward to whatever you come up with next!!:salute:

How do you drop the bombs?

Is there a keystroke for this or is it automatic? Not done much mission work. Also, where do you see this mission compass? I see a "ybomb 20" window but no compass. I thought I had 3d party mesh but the mission starts fine with the other aircraft. I followed out the last AD but had 100% fuel so could not keep up and stopped the mission!

Appreciate any tips.

Ok. . .Bombs are dropped by using the "shift+D" combination.
Your Compass is controlled by a checkmark in the "general" dropdown menu in FSX (under options I think. . .I don't have FSX running right now) anyway, it has to be checked in order for the compass to show.

The enemy area isn't very far from where you take off actually, less than 20nm I think. All the bomb runs are made in one general area, so you don't fly from one sector to another to complete all the strikes.

Following the last A-1 isn't really mandatory, it's nice to keep him in sight as you'll be lead right to the enemy location, but not necessary, especially if you have the compass to fly to.

Another thing. . .to keep from having to go back to your base to reload your bomb count. . . .make your passes over the compass at less that 100ft if possible. Dropping from high altitude is fine if you're doing a blanket drop, but these aren't laser guided, lol, so the closer you can get, the better chance you have of hitting the mark. The compass comes into play as well because as you knock out one area, the compass moves to mark the next strike. Most of the strike areas are static, but at least one or two of them are moving, so you have to adjust your run to match them as they move.:salute:

Ed,

Why did you decide to blow up Strykers? You're not a General Gavin M113 guy are you? What a debate that was and continues to be.

Matt

Hi Matt,

LOL - Truth is my choices are limited within the Default Objects for FSX - so i really only had the Stryker or Military vehicle to choose from - however it is funny you mention General Gavin,

I was part of the 3/505 82nd back in 87', our squad won the General Gavin Competition, I was PVT 1st Class back then, M249 SAW Gunner, Anyways I had the honor to meet General Gavin and shake his hand as he awarded us our trophy, What a thrill that was -

I was airborne grunt, so I'm not sure about why they call the m113 the Gavin - We always tried to stay far away before they dropped the heavy stuff - LOL - nothing like watching an A1-Abrams Burn in -

Good stuff -

Many Cheers -

Actually, I've never heard of Gen. Gavin or the M113. I had to google the name to even see who he was and what an M113 was. You're talking to the AF here, most of that stuff looks like little boxes to us from 10,000ft.:salute:

I sort of figured your choices were limited, but liked the idea anyway. I never heard of the 113 called the General gavin until GEN Shinseki stood up the Stryker concept, then called an IBCT (Interim BDE Combat Team), then the tracked versus wheeled debate became very heated indeed. Anyway, to make a long story short, someone wanted their 15 minutes of fame and wanted to name the M113 the Gavin, in honor of Jumpin Joe. They also wanted the M113 to replace the new Stryker. It (M113 Gavin) never materialized and the Stryker fighting vehicles did survive.

But, thanks for designing a cool mission. I will give it a try after I get the cockpit to show up in my A-1. Also, saw the failed attempt to LAPES a LAV, bad stuff when the drogue chutes don't deploy and the pilot didn't put enough distance between the wood line and the DZ............ totally destroyed the vehicle and about 10 trees.

Matt

Where is the reload area (hot spot) ?
Well. . . .I don't know actually, since I made it back with some left over. I know there looked to be a bomb dump near the end of the rwy that you take off from, not sure if you just taxi to that area and it's automatic or what. Maybe someone else can chime in here with better instructions.
