Sodium Saltwater Flare...To testing

Gentlemen,

The new Sodium Ocean flare has been sent out for testing mounted on our ETO flat black Mossie for night operations. the Mosssie will come equipped with 6 of these sodium flares and can be loaded with red, green or blue markers. You will also have your normal load of rockets and ammo.

This flare will only activate when dropped in water, if you drop it on land it will not go off. It has an intense bright light that can be seen for many miles on a dark ocean. It turns the water foam around it to the color of the flare.

Mossies carried these flares along with several other Coastal Command and SAR aircraft. The flares were used for attacking coastal installations shipping, submarines, bomber assembly aid, navigation, marking dangerous shoals, minefields, and know U-Boat locations.

Here are some shots of a night attack on a Coastal facility. The flares burn for six minutes after they impact.

EDIT: Note how the tinted water foam flows under the GC piers in picture 4. Pretty cool the way the piers are built and looks real. I also forgot to add that Flying Boats also carried water activated flares to set up flare paths for landing at night on water.

Awesome effects! Will these be in the ETO update?

Great shots Beau. there are now a total of three flares.
1. Red sodium flare
2. Green sodium flare
3. Yellow buoy delayed action launch flare.

If you could include all three on the Wellie we will take your loadouts and put them on the ETO Wellie when you are done. The ETO Wellie will be a brand new stand alone.

The black painted Mossie has been done and has a mixed load of green flares/rockets and red flares/rockets, it did not carry the buoy flare.

We have a visual model already on the buoy_flare and have new M3D's coming on the other two flares so they will show up on loadout. Here is what the flare cannister looks like when loaded.

Thanks
