Some FSX Favorites

Here are some images of favorites that made the transition from FSX to P3D_V2.1 intact. Except for Lionheart's Kodiak, all the rest are freeware. The AS Handley Page Victor and B-2 Bomber, Nigel Booth's CT-4E, Tim Conrad's A1-J, and the revamped A5-Icon by Andreas Korner. There are others as well. . .the Cri-Cri, the J1N Nakajima, The AS HU-16 and Hamaguchi's Honda Jet to name a few. Biggest criteria for me at least is that they must retain clickability in the VC. Of course the external and internal models must be void of any problems like transparent panels that show through to the exterior and prop discs that are solid with no way to correct that issue. These all passed that test.

Some of the default FSX planes deserve the transition as well. The Goose and the Beaver, for example, both fly beautifully in my P3Dv2 :)
And given the fact that P3Dv2 is much more efficient than FSX for the ground blurries, I have transfered a lot of fast jets that I was seldom using in FSX.
The freeware F-104 by SSW is one of the best examples :)
The freeware IRIS F-20 as well.
Oh, and the default Hornet of course :D

Good ones Daube. Glad to see so many making the transition. I had my concerns that I'd lose some of the airplanes I enjoyed flying because they weren't "native" FSX. Also, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why some retain VC functionality and others don't. . .at least to this point no one seems to be able to point to any specific reason. . .so I keep testing and moving, lol.

I saw your posts about the lost clickability of the VC in some planes.
From my side, being still in v2.0 (I'm waiting for further patches before reinstalling everything from scratch), most of the FS9 planes have lost almost all of the clickable stuff, but FSX native planes are fine, if I remember correctly. I have not yet seen any FSX native plane with a clickability problem...
(but I haven't transfered many of them yet)

To get back to the original topic, some of the very first things that were transfered from FSX to P3D have been the Nimitz and the Clemenceau carriers (together with AICarriers, of course). The deck looks fantastic with the new shadow system of the sim. Each object on the deck gets a real shadow, it really adds a kind of "consistency". Of course, some shadows were already "burned" into the original textures, but the dynamic shadows really add something more.

Several more have been moved into P3D, but this one was a welcome sight to be sure. . .Tim's revamped FSX T-33A:

I think if Tim was still around he would be proud to know that his creations have endured through three generations of Sims. I have several others that have endured. . .all look great and still retain VC functionality.

Falcon, I believe you used that pack that contains only one file, the envmap.bmp, right ?
Try this one instead:
http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID=fsxmisc&DLID=129335
It contains two files: an envmap texture (the same), and a new ACChrome file which makes the metal reflections stronger.
That's the pack John Terrel used for his excellent screenshots of the T-6 Texan, you remember ?
No, I used both files. It was posted by Bob in the downloads section.

Thought this was pretty cool. Flying the T-33 Cross Country to my home airport and zoomed in to notice the mountains reflected in the nose of the airplane. There were no mountains anywhere near where I was flying, lol. . .but still, I thought the effect was pretty cool.

That's one of the chief problems with the environmental cube map process. Even the default one looks kind of silly with land being reflected...

...when the a/c is in the middle of the ocean! :pop4:
